Really Lucky Rangers

Now, I'm not sure if this is a bug, or just an absurdly unbalancing element, but, in two different games playing races with the "lucky" characteristic, I've found multiple (!) ranger vessels. And I'm talking mid-game, where they can still destroy a good 99% of enemy ships. In the first game, I found two on two consecutive turns (!), then proceeded to utterly destroy all of my enemies (okay, so I'm a little opportunistic...), whilst in the second I found three, though they were more spaced out as to where and when I found them.

So... yeah. This seems a tad crazy to me.

I had the same thing happen when I tried the lucky attribute. I don't use it anymore.

Count me for three

I still do use the 'lucky' trait as this is pure cheese

What settings are you playing with ?? I've tried lucky several times and no rangers yet. Is it possible not to see one if you're playing tough difficulty levels ?

Hahah, craazyy ^^ Should try it out, maybe then it'd be easier to beat them harder comps!

For me, the last few games I played it seemed that the smaller galaxies gave me several Lucky Rangers while the larger galaxie gave me just one or two or none at all.

Gotta play with SOME luck ya know.

I have found as many as 5 in a gigantic universe. I ended up winning an influence victory on that. My enemies did find one lucky ranger that took 6 of my Battle cruisers to take out. (The ranger was not even their most powerful ship by that time!)

I've been playing with the Lucky characteristic, and I've been regularly finding 3-6 Rangers in each game I've played, on Normal difficulty.

On a side note, how are you guys getting your Metaverse characteristics to show in your posts?

In the last two games I played with the Lucky characteristic (gigantic galaxy), I found aound 15 Rangers. My enemies found a couple, too. Two fleets of those things really turn around a failing war effort...

Oh, shush. When you get lucky-rangers, it's because you're much weaker than rest of the galaxy. They won't help you when the huge fleets are coming, trust me. Massing them as fleets require a huge bonus to logistics, so their main use is defense, coupled with planetary fleet managers. They might help you survive enough to get a peace treaty, but nothing more. I need those lucky-rangers from time to time, as many as I could get. I almost never win the games when I get plenty of 'em, because if you do get them by the dozens, it means you're really behind everybody else.

Do me a favor, people, stop asking the devs to strip the game from every nice feature it has just because of your whims, or your demand of attention. There are other games don't have these features, play them, instead. We need big tilts in the gameplay to leave a place for surprises and fun-factor, we don't need a boring and overly-balanced gameplay.

I think GreatMirror is right. Every time I'm getting my butt handed to me as Humans, I tend to get an influx of Lucky Rangers which let me survive far longer then I should. On small maps, they can sometimes turn the game around, but you're usually in pretty bad straights if you're getting several of them.

However, I do think it's random whether or not your opponents get them. So far, I've had the AI civs get a Ranger twice on me. Once when I was in the process of wiping someone out (he annoyingly destroyed all my starbases/trade routes but that didn't save him), and another when I was in the process of being of wiped out and surviving just by the thin edge of my two Rangers. The AI received a Ranger to even things out. (No worries, one of Rangers was up to 300 hp at that point. I lost every ship I had, including the other ranger, but destroyed their Ranger plus two additional fleets of eight and five ships. The Lucky Rangers can become almost invincible if you build them up enough. Naturally, I still lost the game though)
