To Automate or not to Automate the Govenor

They say experience is the best teacher. Being new to the game (and didn't play GalCiv), and in the process of playing my first gigantic galaxy (long game), I've noticed as the game progress, my planets are upgrading all my previous planet improvements through the auto govenor option. I know this is a preference in micromanagement but for those who have been playing the game for a long time, do you use auto govenor or do micromanage each planet? P.S. My only complaint about the game thus far, its too addictive.

I love the fact that buildings are auto-upgraded. I'm much too lazy to actually try and micromanage each planet myself. The automation helps greatly in building my planets up.

I turn off automatic Terraforming. In the beginning it doesnt make sense because there are enough free tiles available on a planet - I turn it on / do it manually in mid/late-game. I really like micromanaging tho
A good idea is to change queue order as soon as you researched a new production facility type like factory -> enhanced factory. The governor will continue to upgrade / build other things but it's better to upgrade the production buildings first to speed up the whole process.

I haven't micromanaged yet. It takes too much time away from building newer and cooler starships.

I use the governor, but I have noticed that ever since I have updated to 1.0X1 that it doesn't always work. It will update one building on newly conquered worlds, but the rest I need to upgrade manually. I wonder why that "bug" suddenly showed up?

I've haven't had that problem. During the later part of the game I have had to watch my social level because it takes forever to build planetary improvements. In fact when I look at the queue it seems that there are 20 things being updated at once. Hence why I asked the question to automate or not to automate. I too have been moving certain updates like manufactoring up the queue. i have noticed that once I delete all the updates from the queue then the auto govenor doesn't seem to kick in any longer.
