I would that minor races play a major role in the game

I know that minor races shouldn't play a major role in the game but i find minor races to be very weak.Their role in all my games is doing the role of milking cows if friendly or to be wiped out with a few ships by me or other races. In my opinion the problem is at the root because they can't colonize other planets, so they have always systems with very good planets that they don't colonize. So why don't give them at least the ability to colonize the planets in their star system, it's very stupid that they don't colonize planets in their star system with a PQ of 15-16.It's also stupid that they declare war on me sometimes don't send any ship to attack me and everytime they come back to negotiate a peace treaty giving me the possibility to take some of their money, tech or other resources.
It should be also added an event like "minor races have decided to ally between themselves to count more in the galaxy" or similar.

Resuming:
-i don't think that giving minors the ability to colonize their planets could change a lot in terms of gameplay, they would have only 2-3 planets instead of 1, but allow them to play a bigger role
-minor race AI is a bit stupid and should better take in count their own interests
-an event in which minor races are involved to play a bigger role in galaxy would be really appreciated (don't tell me fundamentalists, or terrorists.I want that dark yor, carinoids plays a bigger role for example)

I would like them to colonize, only at a much slower rate than the majors. Maybe 1/4 of the speed.

They should not have any more limitations in my opninion

Another thread about Minor races gives me a chance once more to offer some possibly helpful suggestions. I too would like Minors to be tweaked. I liked the way they worked in GalCiv 1 -- could colonize as long as a habitable planet was one sector over -- that gave them some expansion, improved economy, etc., so they were a bit more effective at times. Also, they seemd to do really good with tech research, so there was trade potential there. As far as I could tell with GalCiv 1, they could not harvest resources with starbases. The only way to starbases from Minors in GalCiv 2, as far as I can tell, is to destroy the base and build it up myself. Please give Minors the ability to trade ships and bases! Also in GalCiv 2, Minors seem to be able to cover the whole galaxy, and I'm playing on a gigantic size. This seems out of sync since the Majors are more limited in distance. Thanks for listening/reading again.

The main problem with the minor races in GC1 was that while some simply sat around and didn't do a great deal in the game (some early research, perhaps some trade and that was about it), some of them colonised a few planets quite quickly (around 3 or 4) and then sat there and churned out vast quantities of very powerful ships. This had the problem of them being easily more powerful than any of the major races (I remember some minor races having a military rating over 1000) and not so easy to wipe out as they owned a few planets instead of 1.

This makes the game more challengning in the sense that they can be a serious thorn in your side if you get on the wrong side of them, but it has its flaws too. They caused problems in galaxies with limited habitable planets, as they took a chunk of them. Also, they caused problems with the continuity of the story (not that there was much of a story in GC1). The races are supposed to be MINOR. How can they be minor if they could mop the floor with the entire galaxy combined? They are also supposed to be less advanced than the other races, both in technological level and in way of life, so the idea that they are advanced enough to colonise other worlds and build massive juggernaut ships is absurd.

I like to think of them as minor countries. It was just unfeasible that Paraguay would have had the abilities and drive to take on the USA and USSR in the cold war, for instance. I think that GC2 has it right with the minor races. They exist, but they are of little consequence on the galactic stage.

One problem I've had with one of the minor races is that this one in particular (in a Dread Lord Scenario, no less) insisted on constructing INFLUENCE BASES RIGHT BY MY HOMEWORLD. Naturally I couldn't have that so I just kept destroying them repeatedly. At one point they asked for peace so I accepted because they stopped building influence bases in my territory. Well enough, or so I had thought.

The Dread Lords were sweeping in from the galactic east, gobbling up my worlds like they were so much popcorn. I was already fighting a losing battle with the Dregrin so my forces were spread out too thinly as it was. Well, sure enough, those little ankle biters (the demonic squirrels) started building influence bases by my homeworld again. My response was the same as before: I blew them up. What I wasn't expecting is that the Snathi had allied themselves with all of the other major races except for me. So now I was at war with EVERYONE except for the Scotlingians.

So from now on, I will adopt a highly genocidal policy toward the minor races. Any time I run into one, I will destroy them and colonize over their dead bodies and turn their bleached bones into flutes and other toys for my colonists' children. And any time a new one pops up, they will suffer the same fate.

Eh, minor races in my games all seem to fill the space above their homeworld with freighters, constructors and a couple of troop transports (?!). I wipe them out with a few cheap fighters then invade. One would think they would build a couple of military starbases and defense fleets.

What difficulty rating were you playing, jefe414? The minor races in my games are like obnoxious vermin that keep infesting the wrong planets (the ones that I usually want) and throwing influence bases in MY territory.
