Can't go to war!

Thanks alot diplomacy.

I've looked around here, looked in the manual, and I can't seem to find any way around this.
Thanks to diplomacy we vote on everything. Unfortunately I'm no longer the leading party, but I keep my approval rating above 50% at all times.
There's only three civilizations left, and I'm trying to take them out and win a domination game. But I can't start a war! There's not a single race / minor race that my people will allow me to declare war against. I also can't change governments because of the vote.
Quite frankly, this is just annoying, so I'm wondering if there's anyway around this? I know I could pretty easily win a research game, but I'm not really looking to do that.

Just get your approval rating to be higher and then you will be able to go into war.

Well, you don't seem to be a good leader, that's why people won't vote for you

Bah, just switch back to Imperial gov if you wanna go to war.

Slash tax, build some VR centers. Change to imperial, and make them suffer for not voting for you!

Does it have to be over a number of turns?
I drop my taxes and get my approval 90% (for a turn) but I still don't win the vote.

That's probably because you've lost control of the senate. You're going to have to get your approval back up (around 70% should do it) and then wait for an election. Once that's happened and your party is back in power you ought to be able to win any votes.

Well you can do the hard thing and try to raise your approval.

OR

You can just piss off your enemies until thye declare war on you. Just start builing Military and Influence star bases in there space, and start massing transports right next to one of there planets. If the AI is set smart enough it will declare war on you.

Alright, great thanks.
I'll definately try to raise my approval and get back in control, but I'll also try to piss them off
Unfortunaly I have GREAT relations with everybody, so that may take a while too. That's what I get for playing a domination game where I freely trade tech and goods with my neighbors

Boy, this game takes some getting used to. The differences between it and Civ (I'm a big Civ fan) are just enough to really throw me off.
