Weird AI glitches

At least. . . I'm assuming they're glitches. . .

Once again, the Torians decided that they'd help me in my war -- by giving me starbases. This time one of them was a mining starbase, which is useful, but the others were economy starbases in his territory. Now it's a little silly to be giving me those starbases. Mining bases should simply never be given away, unless the AI is feeling quite intimidated or they otherwise just want to kiss ass. In general situations, however, they should be jealously protecting those resources. Economy starbases are -totally- useless to give away. All that does is hurt them. It doesn't benefit me at all.

Another oddity is minor civs building influence starbases. There's no point to it. Minor civs don't seem to even have influence, so why should they bother to build those things? I could understand it if they were in the business of selling the things to other civs, but they personally have no use for them.

Maybe they were in the danger of having a cultural flip, in that case they would need influence to prevent themselves from being taken over culturally.

I don't get why the minors just sit there and don't attack or anything. i think they should at least have some bit of influence since they are there and they do have a planet. I don't understand why they aren't given influence

I'm pretty sure that minors are unaffected by influence. Besides, the minor that did this was on the opposite side of the map from me, yet still decided to put several influence bases around my homeworld.

Bump on this. Not 100% sure if these are 'bugs' in the AI or not.

I did some experimentation and I'm pretty darn sure that you can't take over a minor via influence...I had two major races in the same system flip for me and the minor didn't budge and I laced the area with influence starbases....

I assume influnce you BUY from a minor race helps you but would like a know-how answer.

Minor races do attack...I have found that out the hard way. WERE they asked to? I don't know but after playing a few games with minors giving them every tech for cash and other techs, ships...I got used to the idea they were passive. Well one day I gave the Dark Yor a ton of military techs and they found themselves with 2 new worlds that were once mine within 10 weeks. Oh they paid dearly but it was a set back I was not prepared for.

And yes in the same game I had the encounter with non mining starbases being given to me by a friendly race. Well I figured I could give thme back as free brownie points....next turn I got them back. *sigh* So I gave them to another friendly race that they were at war with knowing they would then blast them themselves. Got me cash from the other race which I knew was doomed.

I've had this weirdness happen in my current game. Playing with Genius AIs and the Altarans gave me a bunch of starbase resources! First it was weird because he said he was giving me some ships to help in my war vs the Drengin. I am not at war with the Drengin, but I did reject two demands so I think I was at war with the Drengin but it didn't show up on the treaties page.

An AI giving my a starbase for free is pretty crazy. I mean giving away starbases for any reason is pretty crazy imo.

Minors....now those guys need a whole re-tool, I mean there's a lot wrong with them.
