The Snathi should be a major race...

Not that the other aliens in GC2 are bad, exactly, but they do tend to be somewhat well, bland. Other than the Altarians and the Drengin, the rest are sort of forgetable. But the Snathi - they are memorable. Evil teddy bears are not original, but it's one of those great and memorable concepts. They deserve to a major race, IMHO.

They're squirrels.

Do you have suggections for making them less bland, cuz that is rarely a bad thing.

As for new races, it's not that simple, as EVERY race has a seperate AI routine. Making a new one is not easy.

The Yor aren't bland. They've got great dialog.  And what about the Korx?

It's hard to compete against a psychotic squirrel though.

Squirrel Power! Beware my Squirrely wraith! All will join in harmony or be devourared like a nut! ^_^ Squirrel POWER!!!!

About Korx i find them the most interesting race toward the others or at least their shape is really pretty and frightening. But the most interesting are Dark Yor.I would only that there is a scenario where there is the Dark Yor vs Yor war or a robotic war against the others, because they are really interesting and in my opinon better designed between minors.Just one question for developers: is this minor race designed to play a major role in a future expansion or a sequel or their introduction was only a very smart design idea?

The Dark Yor are fine too. Who wouldn't want little, cute, really evil robotic pets?

We need some interesting goodie races now...

how about a psycho walrus based race?

Any one ever create a custom race then choose the Snathi portrait and have the leader name be Foamy. If you dont know who Foamy is then swing over to illwillpress.com and find out.

I actually have not seen the snathi in game yet.

I know that we wanted to do more with the Snathi, but time is a killer. Im pritty sure you have not sean the last, of them yet

u noe what, rather than making several out there races, why not make custom races playable by the AI? the only thing that would be different is that you would have to select their morality like u did in GC1.
I'd LOVE to have custom races set up for the AI to play as well as setting their morality (huge disappointment that it wasn't available this time), I'd have so much fun with that.

We are the Snathi and we hear that you have a supply of nuts on your homeworld...prepare for invasion.

Yes I can vouch for the Yor, they do indeed have great dialog.

"Sooo you actualy talk with meat, in that meat mouth of your's, that is so wierd." or something like that.

when you play as the Yor they have some great lines too.

Korx are pretty interesting as well.

Thalans have been forgetable so far. sorry, they could use a bit more personality or if they have it they need to show it more. Just an opinion though.

I once had the Yor tell me a story about how they thought they'd heard about some non-carbon race called "Silicoids" and hadn't really found them. Man, they have issues.
Only the Yor, Drengin and Snathi left me with any impression. All the rest are forgettable, bland and unimpressive. And there's nothing really special like Silicoids about. And Korx bug the hell out of me. Their lower face looks like a bad texture stretched way too much, and as such I always have them disabled.

I like the variety of races. I like the concept behind them all. If one had to take the bullet to let the Snathi in, I'd say the Torians deserved the award.

I also wish the Iconians would do something.... in any of my games. They've never been anything more than a minor race who have been way behind in all areas and folded at the first sign of trouble. I think they need to be worked on a bit to develop their racial skills. Get them as tech monsters, even if they're not very aggressive - and set them to all but refuse to trade techs with anyone. It's a shame as the Iconians really appeal to me.

And I cant believe people are not giving the Thalans their due - I love playing with these guys and I generally like them as an AI race.

You should make a gaseous race to make the Yor happy... as they are complaining about there not being any.

Spearthrower: The general consensus is that the Thalans virtually never do anything as the AI. The performance of the AI seems to be subjective for different players, oddly enough, but if the Thalans are doing well in your games, your games are somewhat of an anomaly. (I, however, almost always play a game with Thalans in it, and I almost always ally with them. I like 'em, wish they were balanced and useable.) As for a player race, the Thalans are significantly worse than the Yor in every way (except that the Thalans don't start Evil).

The Iconians are even worse for players (they get nothing--literally), but they're a so-so AI in my games. In my current game (Gigantic galaxy, all AI Gifted), the Iconians have one half of the galaxy in their influence bubble and are allied with every single race except me. And they have every tech (including Tech Victory, as I'm on conquest only). It's scary. (I'm having to build a lot of starbases to make strongpoints that can resist invasion, which allows me to safely send everything I can muster into breaking several worlds in a turn before fortifying again).

Mormegil: Isn't Mormegil the leader's name for the Paulos? Those little guys just invaded the Altarians in my current game. They're winning, too. I've also seen the Scottlingas and Snathi do things like that...

Yea, I got a good laugh the first time the Snathi popped in. Read their bio, it's hilarious. Would be cool if they were a major. I get a kick out of the Yor. I'm always amuzed by their dialog about talking meat and carbon based life forms. As far as who does well in the game, it seems the Drengin are most often my best competitors. The Torians and Altarians do well, but since I always play good and they are "good" races, all it takes is a little bit of diplomacy to keep them at bay. Those Drengins boy, gotta watch out for them. Very hard to schmooze. Same with the Yor. The only way to keep them at bay is to make sure your military is always close if not stronger than theirs. If you get close with the Torians, they'll brown nose you and say things about how wonderful you are. I get a laugh out of that.

yea the Korx are wierd looking, I've always wondered where the hell thier mouth is.

and IMO the Minor races could use some more unique racial images, the only ones with an unique image are the Dark Yor (which look more like skeletal robot things than War Robots. although the image used may well be a diplomatic unit) and the Snathi, the rest of them use variations of 3 racial pics.

For the I-League, maybe have something like a random image of the existing races in the galaxy, except maybe have the images look more rogue.... more like dissatified citizens rebelling against thier home empires. Like Alan Bradley wearing a more civillian shirt, not having the background there, and having some fuzz, or maybe a Torian with jowl rings, make them look like rebellious members of thier race.

although the Drengin already look rogueish, so I'd imagine them wearing klingon style stuff???

and in fact I believe some of the minor race leaders are named after Stardock developers, for example the leader of the Jessuins I think is named Kodh Kritter, and theres a stardock dev here named Code Critter

Since this seems a place to air what you think of the major races as well, I agree with the statement that the Thalans don't do much. In most of my games, they are more like a glorified minor race. In fact, since I am having some performance issues with the V1.2 patch, I'm probably going to stop using them as an opponent. The Iconians do all right in my games, although they tend to be the first target of any evil race they are neighbours with. The good race that I thought was the least interesting or competitive as an opponent was the Drath, which is one reason why I play as them.

The Snathi description was a real crack-up the first time I read it. Personally though, I don't like including minor races. They have a knack for grabbing useful resources, and I would rather watch the major races at war with each other than with a minor race.

What about the Torians??? They feign good aligned, but are very evil. The only thing that makes them seem good aligned is they build masses of influence starbases like Altarians.

Someone said here don't colonize Mars, take my influence. Altarians colonized and then built an influence starbase so they wouldn't lose it. Torians do the same.

I have to agree about the Torians. They're a hoot. The whole thing about how we should feel sorry for them and give them everything they want while they're plotting to wipe us out. How they ALWAYS go after the Drengin given half a chance.

The Yor are interesting too. I love their opening line. Just because they like to eat sentient beings and consider torture a hobby doesn't mean they're evil.

The Snathi are basically a gag. If they became a major race they'd need a lot more depth. Evil squirrels by themselves just doesn't seem to cut it for me.
