Aythanaeus Aythanaeus

Campaign = Lame

Campaign = Lame

I've been playing the first 3 levels of the campaign and I have a few comments I wonder if anyone else noticed the same...

1) Tedious Research: So lemme get this straight. Your playing in a campaign which is intended to be an ongoing game... yet each time you reach the next level ALL of your tech goes away.... maybe a side effect of this new unknown alien identity. It's lame and make the campaign seem like sandbox games. I finish the level off before I get halfway through the tech tree!

2) All the levels seem the same. All ya have to do is obliterate the enemy. Wow. Thats so original! NOT!

3) Horrible Storyline. Was this just written the night before it shipped? There is little to NO story at ALL! A paragraph or two and thats it.

I mean this game has so much potential a few patches could fix but damn this honestly has a long way to go in beating out Civ IV.... a lonnnng way....

But the problem with continuing the research on tech tree is that a lot of players might just research EVERYTHING on the first level and then complain about the game being too easy.

I guess there are other ways to deal with it.. such as putting a limit to how much you can research in the first level to begin with. Another way might be to put a time restriction for each scenario.

Then again, I think you are suppoesd to beat the scenario as soon as you can, not trying to whore up the best technology and then slaughter your opponents.

Do the Dread Lords ever appear in the regular game, or is the only time you see them is in the campaign?

I think it would be nice to have Dread Lords pop up in a regular game, as a minor race triggered by random event.

(BTW I agree the campaign is kinda dumb; I've given up on it not so much due to difficulty (although some missions are hard indeed) but due to tedium and boringness of it all. Plus I think its really illogical to have your tech reset to the stone age at the start of each mission. Dumb!)

I was hoping for a better campagin. Like a gigantic map with alot of scripted triggers or the like. Right now it's just tedious. So I just play sandbox mode instead

Aythanaeus, if you preferred Civ 4 over Galactic Civilizations 2, then please, shut the hell up, get off this forum, and get a copy of Civ 4. It's only, what, ten or fifteen more dollars than Gal Civ 2?

Who lit the fuse on your tampon? Sorry for knocking the game that is Gal Civ II.... apparently constructive criticism isn't allowed on the forums here.

I was making the link between the two games (galciv2 & civ4) in that they are both tbs. Civ focused on smaller scenarios with more content whereas galciv2 focused on a broadened less focused approach. My suggestion for future patches or expansions is the keep the campaign the way it is but add more content or storyline so it's a little more enjoyable for everyone. I didn't say galciv2 was a horrible disappointment, I do enjoy the sandbox games quite a bit and this game has huge potential in future updates.

Sorry your so oversensitive.... wouldnt wanna be the guy to get caught checking out your girlfriend! Drink some green tea and do some yoga eh? Life is so much better when your not barking at random people

PS. I've played just about every TBS game in history from the days of Civ I on DOS.... so spare me the "you don't know jack" retort I'm sure you've been brewing.

no in some cases their technology shows up.... i've nabbed a few "Precursor Rangers" in sandbox games that have really helped me out lol! I've yet to see them as an entity though.

Also I've never run into a minor race... anyone else? What settings are best for having them pop up?

Minor races absolutely litter my sandbox games. There's always at least 6 on a gigantic map.

I really dont understand some of the comments in this thread. People are asking why you have to research everything again with each mission of the campaign...... you dont! Every mission you start with slightly more tech than the last one. It seems like a lot of people complaining here actually havent played them.

If you carried over all research from each campaign, it was just be horribly exploited - you know it would be.

Let me put it this way: I never built a single large-hulled ship the entire campaign.

I must say I'm quite disappointed with the campaign, it really does just feel like the same mission over and over. (Everyone has one planet to start and you have to kill a drengin or dread lords planet). Though I must admit, I actually managed to lose the first mission on my first try It was really easy second try (I set it back to the same difficulty), but my ally made the final kill, with one ship when I had a fleet of 4 just arrived...

I'm stuck on achilles heel at the moment (normal difficulty), I have no idea how I'm supposed to take a dread-lords planet, any ship or fleet I can build gets wiped out by one of their tiny ships. And it's not like my allies help, they just keep building ships which get blown up, run out of money and get invaded (EDIT: much like me, only faster). Any tips?
