ATI radeon 9X00
Geforce 6xxx

You can usually get them for lower prices and they're still plenty good.

Depends on the brand you purchase too, and where.

Small computer shops usually have much much better prices on individual pieces than the big stores, who generally have better prices on complete computer systems.

I'd say you could look for a 80-100$ card and you'll be golden. Just make sure that it says that the card support dynamic lighting and vertex shaders and directx 9 (9c actually).

I am using an nvidia 5200 with no problems at all, and they are dirt cheap now. If you have an AGP slot and some money though I would get a slightly better card.

What type of AGP port do you have, Citizen highlander48? 4X or 8X? The answer might limit your choices some as some of the newer cards may not work on older motherboards. Some, in fact, can fry a motherboard that doesn't support their power requirements.

I bought a pretty good one for 100 dollars from ebay. 256megs video memory, PCI slot (128 bit). That will probably handle all the new stuff for a few years anyway.

Cheers
