Point of Starbases?

Low planet gal's only?

What's the use of starbases? I've been playing on a Gigantic universe with common habitable planets, so maybe they're for when you need to extend influence and have no planets to go to? Seems like what might be helpful in a universe with uncommon habitability.

Economy bases are always useful for boosting production and trade. Military bases are great when you're on the defensive. *shrugs* I've always found starbases quite useful. There are actually some who feel that they're too powerful.

Not that they're too powerful but rather that the computer doesn't use them enough to give them the same kind of advantage that the player has.

Basicaly, you can give your planets a 300%++ production bonus on top of everything else, by using starbases, If you apply this to your manufacturing capital which has 700% production bonus tiles, you're going to be able to crank out thousands (you read right, thousands) of production points per turn. Of course, you have to pay for those, but still...

Nevermind the fact that starbases' cost to build ramp up rather quickly after the first 10 or so. 4000bc per starbase? Iiish. Hope you have a good economy

Point of Starbases? Tell me you are kidding? There are so many points of building Starbases that I won't even begin to list it all.

Starbases are Uber. With a pretty reasonable effort, you can put together a military starbase that is nigh-invulnerable to attack and gives great bonuses to any of your ships fighting in its sphere of influense. As such they are remarkably useful tools in both defense of key planets, and invasion prep.

When youre not at war, some of your planets should always be building constructors to build and upgrade economic bases to magnify the effects of your more productive planets. And bear in mind, if you take the Evil ethical path, you get starbase upgrades for free.

Just to make sure: you do know to send other constructors to existing starbases to add modules to them, otherwise your starbases are basically eyecandy.

Influence Starbase: to extend your... well influence.
Economy Starbases: try to set them so there range affects as many worlds as possible. This can lead to being able to build ships faster at those planets.
Military Starbase: I have'nt really used these. Except load them up with weapons and shielding and laugh histerically when the AI attacks it.
Mining Starbases: mmmm, military resources.
