One or two REALLY simple Manufacturing questions

Research goes across your empire, it's cumulative. If you have four colonies with 1 lab each, you've got 4 labs total cranking out research.

But if you have 4 colonies with 1 factory each it does NOT mean that when one of those colonies builds say, a ship, that you get 4 factories worth of output. A factory, or other manufacturing resource, only increases the build speed of something being built ON THAT COLONY.

So....if you're not building anything on a colony (a ship, or a planetary improvement, etc) any factories on that colony are doing exactly nothing.

If this is true I can see why people specialize planets for manufacturing.

Yes, that's how it works. Although I'd like to point out that you actually never asked a question.

So what's the question? Looks more like a statement

But yes, factory production is limited to the planet their are built on. Remember though, factory produces a set number of points that are spread between your civic and military production, so if you want to build planetary improvements, it's useful to have a couple factories around.

The one production type that is wide spread is research.

Hope this helps

you need factories to upgrade whatever buildings you'll put on planets though.

Even those class four planets can fit two labs and they need a factory to upgrade themselves.

Or if you:

A. Are rich enough
Or
B. Dont care

You can simply just buy the factory and have it built overnight.

I'd be alot more worried if factories accumulated points over all of the worlds..

That is an excellent point, I didn't think about updates/upgrades. So far I only played one very long game on cakewalk and it kinda went nowhere for a long time. I'm trying to get a grip on the basics so I can do much better next time. This forum is a terrific place to hang out and learn things.

Yea, and then upgrade the factory into something useful. Or, not build a factory because each colony comes with an initial colony let it do the work. I used to start my games with buying a factory first thing, but now i usually buy an entertainment network, and build market centers until I can have spending at 100%. No point having 10 factories on 1 planet if you are running at 10% spending
