What makes more money for Stardock?

Buying from local retailer or direct?

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I was wondering which way I should purchase to make the most money for Stardock?

Thanks.

Depends. Buying direct from them gets them more money direct in the pocket. Buying from retail gives less cash in the pocket NOW, but raises the profile of the game, leading to more shelf space being given to the game, and for a longer period of time, more public awereness of the game, which hopefully leads to more sales/money down the line...

Unless Frogboy or someone else at SD can give a clear answer, I don't think there's an obvious one that is better than the other.

Personally I went with the electronic download since the UK distribution looked to be slooooow. and I think was only available from last week. Just go with whichever is best for you and get as many other people on board as you can. Support a decent company and stick it to the likes of Starforce.

Here it is: Buy the game twice, get your friends to buy the game, get your friends to get their friends to buy the game. Get them all to buy the game twice. That's what makes stardock the most money

Personally, I think that buying it from retail gives them the bigger market share. Less money now, more money potential in the long run.

I find Wal-Marts to be creepy places filled with people I don't want to be around, and from what I've heard they're one of the few that have had it consistently in stock.

Ordered mine digitally and was playing it litterally minutes after it launched.

I should note that I had done the pre-load. The actual game probably took around an hour or so to download and install...your mileage may vary.

The do what's best for you thing is correct.

However I am 99% certain that it is buying direct that will earn Stardock the most money.

Also, It helps because you can then get it off SDC immediatly after the transaction clears..

It is true that buying direct from us will be most directly beneficial to our bottom line. We want to make sure that it makes it in stores, but I think that given the current situation we are not anywhere near as concerned about this as we were last week.

I bought it online. I cant imagine why id want to spend petrol money to drive to a store, queue up and pay money to some crappy retail establishment for something I could just download.
As a games developer, Im pretty certain the direct sales earn stardock SUBSTANTIALLY more than rteail per copy. I know that I earn around 8 times as much as I do from an online sale as I do from the retail copies.
The future of games purchasing has to be online, the only thing holding people back is broadband availability and some old fashioned view of owning the CD as being more secure. And You can burn your own CD/ DVD anyway.
To be honest, if I'd had to go to a store, I might still not own the game, but as a digital download, there was no reason not to get it.
