Game freezes after Galaxy Setup

Debug Message: Driver internal error

Hi there,

I just wanted to check in before I went out and bought a new video card or something. Any insights anyone might have are most appreciated. I have as of yet been unable to play the game.

Thanks,
Ben

Also,

I have read the stickies and I've updated all the necessary drivers from the manufacturers' websites. I did notice that the most updated Matrox G450 driver is from 2004, but I've noticed others here with older drivers that are able to play the game. Maybe it's just luck of the draw. :/

First off have you disabled the software mouse in options?

Aye... I've disabled software mouse, plus all video and audio effects.

Having confirmed again that my system meets all requirements, employed all on-site recommendations, and contacting customer support, I have yet to resolve the very same problem you seem to be having.

Someone please advise! I want to play this game!

As old as your video card is, it looks like you just need to get a newer one. It is bottoming out at the low-end of the scale on the minimum specs, and with no recent driver updates you will probably never get this game working on that card. It would be interesting to see if anyone has the same card as you and can run the game.

Tried windowed mode? (make a shortcut to galciv2.exe, then open up its properties and put a space and the letter w after the target and try to run it)

I've tried it in windowed mode, both through the video options and by making a shortcut. No dice!

Can someone recommend a good, budget video card? ^^

I use an nvidia 5200 and the game runs great on it. They are dirt cheap now too.

I'm having the exact same problem, with the exact same debug.err log. No luck running the game past the loading page. Too bad, this game looks sweet. I figure i may just need to get a new video card, but, thats a bit much. Any input or ideas, let em rip.
Cheers.

I just picked up a ATI Radeon 9200 off of Craigslist, and after much finagling, the card works. (Loose cables, grr). I'm happy to report that the game seems to be working fine.
