AI not as good ?

In my opinion the AI is no where near as good in 2 as the past games. Generally playing with 2-3 other intellegent civs, and not really having any problems winning. Lets see :

1) The AI doesn't use any speed. So when they get to you they're a generation or 2 of tech back. They're transports are sitting ducks as well because of this.
2) The AI doesn't guard anything.
3) The AI doesn't seem to value good ships, just masses of crappy ones.
4) The AI doesn't put enough focus on capturing, or destroying your resource starbases.
5) The AI doesn't put enough focus into upping it's pop centers.

Don't get me wrong I love this game. But IMO, the AI isn't up to par with the older games. Perhaps this is just because the great diversity in strategies caused by the new tech tree, and ship designer. IE the AI can't quite be so well scripted as in the older games.

Oh my point was are these things being worked ? I can understand how hard it is too balance some of these, esp speed / quality of ships so perhaps the AI is still in a primitive state ?

They have already tweaked the AI to focus more on speed, and as time goes on I'm sure the other things will be addressed.

It is likely to value good ships more when it gets the chance to upgrade them. Further tweaks will be made, I'm sure. Brad's not quite finished yet.

I'm never finished with the AI.

Though baed on what I'm hearing here, I'm not sure he's playing at high levels.  Lower level AI doesn't do those things.  Higher level ones do.  Also, different players have different AI managers.

different AI managers? The AI develops based on the tactics you use?

1) The last patch should have gotten the AI thinking of speed more often.

2) True. Then again, I don't either, since I prefer to upgrade my starbases enough to take care of themselves, garrison the planets, and have interceptor class ships scattered around sniping at anything that does come into my area.

3) The AI currently doesn't have the ability to upgrade its ships, though that should be taken care of later this month, from what I understand.

4) I've seen them make concerted efforts, but not very often. I had assumed that this was because by the time I'm in a war, my starbases almost always have better weapons and defenses than the best fleets around, so it wouldn't be worth the effort.

Up the difficulty. There are several higher difficulty levels above intellegent.

I noticed only 2 flaws in AI for now but in my opinion are very important:
-At the beginning of a game they focus only in colonization and starbase construction and build only a few ships so AI is nearly undefended if u go for an early rush
-AI isn't very aggressive when i have an undefended planet, or i have an entire sector which can be wiped out easily. For example in my last game i was allied with altarians and playing a two war front against drengin and yor in one part of the galaxy and at the opposite against torian and arcean.I hadn't so much ships so i had to retreat my ships from drengin yor front to support other ships against arceans which were the primary menace.Well i had parked only 4 ships in one planet to counter drengin and yor and while they were all destroyed and there were 2 invasions failed on my planet, i managed to control the planet for 120 turns when i wiped out arceans and could finally send reinforcements. While there were attempts of the AI to wipe out me from this sector they didn't manage to do it and it was a very easy task.

I think what he means is that each race has a different AI routine from the others...

I think i'm up to date on the version, and their ships are still slow. What is best version ? Also I like playing against intellegent because there's no rigging. Too much pressure on higher levels. lol. (at least older games , haven't tried in 2 yet) (game playing now had 9 opponents, had dregin and icon refuge set to intellegent, rest on bright) Dregin had massive military, that i plowed right thru....

Seriously love the game, just hopeing that some of your focus is on improving the AI, as aposed to fixing bugs. (bugs probably more important right now though)

1.0x.010 is the version i'm playing from 3/6. Thanks

The AI on my games with bright opponents have been fine with me.

With the speed issue, it depends on the specific AI's tactics for the game. My current game has the Arceans attacking me with slow, heavily armed ships. Conversely, the Altarians have faster ships with slightly less weaponry.

Even with that though, the Arceans know where to put their engines. They have troop transports that can invade my planets on the turn after they enter my sensor range. Not only that, but they are sending them into my blind spots and unprotected flanks while distracting me with fleets attacking from the front.

I'm really enjoying my current game despite being on the ropes. My miltary starbase is really paying off and allowing me to finally rebuild my shattered military.

Is there a way to garuntee a good game ? (what races to pick, map size ect ? )
Just had another ez game with 5 opponents set to gifted, on a huge map. They didn't play like it.... Still moving slow and unable to muster any real threat. My fast colony ships and quick utilization of resources pretty much locked the game pretty early.
