Friday Sales update!

Remanufacturing as fast as possible...

The second manufacturing run of Galactic Civilizations II has sold out.  We've now shipped more units of GalCiv II in the first 10 days than the total retail sales of the first GalCiv in its entire history.

We're working getting a third manufacturing run out as fast as possible, however because of the time it takes to manufacture the manuals and boxes there may be some problems getting it at retail soon.

At present, most stores should still have some copies left, however. But availability will lkely start to dwindle as there's no units to replace what gets sold for the next week or so.

Thank you all so much for your support and we hope you're enjoying the game!

This weekend we'll try to put up a sneak preview of what we plan to put into Galactic Civilizations 1.1. Lots of cool new features based on your feedback!

I can say that the 1.1 version will being including a Mirror Universe scenario -- cuddly Drengin and blood thirsty Altarians! Stay tuned!

what is going on with this universe? Nice Drengins? you got to be kidding me, I can hear them:

"We have dinner and guess who is the main dish? With a little of sugar on top? Some candy maybe?" "How about some icecream? Everything to make you feel at home".

LOL ... Selling out IS kind of a problem, but it IS a nice problem to have, wouldn't you say Brad?

The Drengin do have some funny comments when they become good. I had the whole Drengin become good random event and they were hillarious: "We are not really cuddly, but if you were here, we would give you a biiiiig hug." That is probably not a direct quote, but it is close. Really funny stuff.

Glad to hear the game's doing so well. I got impatient and direct downloaded this morning. Custom building my first ship almost made me late for school/work.

Great news! I love this game
Please enable custom music soon (like in the manual described)!

It's true, among the scores of other GC2 players, I've been telling all my pals that are into the genre and don't own this game, they're missing out.

But lately I've also been going around to the rest of my pals, that are perhaps not into the genre or at least haven't tried it before, that if they don't have the game they're missing out on a gamer cultural revolution of sorts.

This really is "The Day We Said 'No'" to invasive copy protection. A Boston tea party, of sorts, minus throwing our dillapidated copies of lesser titles into the frothy brine.

I hope you guys use the money to branch out and produce games in other genres with this much polish and copy protection philosophy. You're poised to take over the world, or at least to force other studios to adapt and in so doing to become your clones.

y do companies use it anyways? it only make ppl want to pirate their games the last time i bought a game that had starforce i uninstalled the copy that i bought then had a friend get me a pirated version so that my money that i paid would get me a real game not some huge virus

I swear there is a mirror version, I've seen it. The Korx doing things out of the kindness of their hearts, the yor like hippie bots "MAKE...LOVE...NOT...WAAAAAAAR"
I have to say, you are one of the best dev teams I have ever seen or heard about. When you consider people like SE who sell their games half completed, then use the money they get from it to finish it off, compared to you guys, working yourselves like mad to get it all shipped, then get new versions out and patrol for bug fixes.
My only complaint is that I'm in the UK, so can't apply to work for you

LMAO, I hope that the evil Altarians have goatees, as all mirror universe bad guys should.

Well checked out this game and it seems to be great. I will buy it especially because it does not have copy protection. Hope you guys can lead the industry in this manner. You have my support.

Hmm whats funny about that is if you look at the Drengin and the Yor.. they kind of already have facial hair.. can you imagine a clean shaven (or at least without the mechanical mouth pieces) Yor?

Exactly. Mere obedience is purchased with the stick, but hearts and minds are won with the carrot. Many of these software companies don't seem to realize that getting pirated versions of their software (due to either copy protection or the game being a piece of crap/not worth buying) are more beneficial to us individuals than their legit versions, and that the more stringent their copy protection becomes, the more people will go toward piracy so they won't have to deal with the BS.

To counteract this problem, the IMHO the best way is to provide a carrot, ie software updates or multiplayer functionality. Seriously, without this approach and since you can't go and arrest every pirate out there, the legit software guys are going to keep building bigger sticks (copy protection), and pirates are just going to come up with bigger ways to break it, and more and more people will begin to pirate.

Excellent news, Frogboy! It's exciting to follow the game's exposure/sales in the world or at least in NA. Way to go, truly! And I only hope Stardock will remain as faithful to its customers as it was before the game became such huge commercial success. And I'll say it once again: This is only the begi9nning!, GalCiv II is on fire!

I think it's true to say that Quality products sell - and GalCiv II has proved the case.
Concerning copy protection, I'm one of a growing army of purchasers that now look first at what manner of copy protection is on a game before committing to purchase. Having suffered from one Starforce game I won't ever buy another one. I have two games that I can't play at all without No-CD cracks - despite having an up-to-date DVD drive.
Do games really need that level of "protection"? Unreal, Quake and Doom seem to have managed to sell a whole raft of games after removing the protection.
It was a brave move selling GalCiv II with no protection, but it has paid off. I was wavering over whether to get it or not (totally immersed in Civ4) and had an idle look just to see what sort of copy protection it had. Having discovered it had none, I leapt in and ordered the Collector's Edition - the nice metal CD case swung it.
Version 1.1 sounds cool - it can only get even better !

I just want the Scroll of the Main Play Window (to work when you push the mouse pointer at the corners of the screen) to Work, and make the Arrow Keys so they can be Remapped.
