Modding Request: Star trek

I was wondering if anyone was considering creating a mod that would incorporate the star trek series'. I am looking for a mod that would create ship addon designs that make the ships I create look more from the star trek series'(federation, romulan, borg, klingon, dominion... etc). This mod would change the tech trees to create star trek based tachnologies, and create correlating AI star trek empires to make the mod a better game.

I would create this mod myself, but I have no knowledge about modding games. If anyone is considering to create this mod, please contact me so that we can team up and make the mod better suited for GC2 and the avid star trek fans out there.

you know most modders start out with zero knowledge too. thats part of modding, getting to know how things work and how to change them. so instead of asking others to do it just get to it and do it yourself. lazyness should not be supported

as soon as the mod-folder is working and Stardock released a modding-guide things will start to get in motion here.

for graphic modding you will need a 3D programm like Maya, 3DS Max, Blender... anything that allows the exporting of ships as .X file. then you just need to check out the XML Files for changing if the real ingame data. XML is pretty easy to read and not hard to understand, also very similar to HTML.

here you see anything youd need to know to create an own planetary improvement.

for instance if you want to double the economic boost of the market place you could simply change the line:

[EconomicBonus]10[/EconomicBonus]

to [EconomicBonus]20[/EconomicBonus]

as easy as that. ^^

of course if you add a completely new building you need an unique internal name and you need to add a reference to a technology so that your own building is made available after a certain tech was researched.

edit:
had to change the "less than" and "greater than" tags to [ and ] cause the boards interpete them as html. silly forum ^^

IRT Impulsedriver : Hey, I'm going to design Startrek ships too (with the help of blender, 3dsmax 7) when you want we can team up, the only thing I must say is that I get this game on 17 march (germany) but this is no problem
I work myself through the editors but together i think we can make it ,
I've seen some nice Warp-nacelles in galciv2 (the Nova corvette) I think these are useful...

my e-mail is [email protected]
if you want you can reply there. (good to know to speak to a Startrek fan I'm too )

What would be cool as far as a Trek mod would be through components and hulls in the ship designer, so it would allow you in essence to design your own Trek ships.

ie. various disc shaped hulls for federation ships, and nacell components etc. The thinking is you could use the same essential dish to make say a Nebula or a Galaxy class ship based on nacell configuration, same thing with say a Reliant vs Enterprise in Wrath of Kahn. Similar dish reconfigured. On top of that you could do your own, It'd be fun to make my own designs with Trek components instead of being "stuck" with the static Trek designs.

I opened a thread about this very topic. we need the trek ship PARTS not complete ships.... bridge modules, saucesr, nacelles, secondary hulls... I can't wait till we start seeing additional parts...

Man... this game may force me to dig into 3ds Max! hah.
I have to dig, too
but the possibilities which it offers are "galactic"
If you want you may help to create a Trek-mod (many modder starts small).
Until, I'll dig myself deeper into blender and 3ds max...(help!)

It seems as though we can export any model into .x and use it in game... I am going to make the valient attempt with some trek ships when i get home in a few hours.

Well, i am in. I don't have experience with 3dsmax or such, but i am an extreme Trekkie and i could easily come up with technologies etc. that are in line with canon. All hail the Tachyon particle.

I would love to see a new hull style etc; you know, you have the Human and Drengin styles etc; why not Federation, Borg, etc?

If i can do anything, i will.

i would love to see the enterprise or ds9 stations instead of these boring military bases

romulan ships would also be nice. the klingon ships have been started as well as logos. remember that you need to mod the races and their photos as well for a true treck universe. also if its possible a borg ship should be able to randomly appear in the universe. it would be cool but i don't know if that's feaseable. someone is making excelsiar, nebula, etc. classes availeable shortly and is looking for help in creating these ship models. i suggest contacting them. the link is in the mod page somewhere. sorry i'm not more help but it does have some popularity with over 60 posts. best of luck and i'll be waiting for the ships. i would help but my new pc won't be built for another 2 moths.

You guys are making a meal of this..

making the parts for the trek ships would be easy.. I have been making ships for SFCIII for 2 years now.. If you wanted them for this game.. all you would need to do is use existing trek ships like the thousands located in the dyna.. open them up in 3ds max.. and cut the necceles off and the saucers off... delete what you dont want then export them to whatever format the game uses... easy

I would be interested in helping to makea trek mod.. im still downloading the product as I type this out...

it would be like a modern version of BOTF.. great

the major work there lies in the placing of the hardpoints with the correct orientation.

also you will need to ensure that the jewelry-items you create are centered correctly so they will connect to other ship parts the way you want them to.

its not terrible difficult, but takes alot of time and is frustrating

Well, the most modders here in the Forum are Working on a Star Trek Mod, so you got your solution. If It's not going fast enough for you, the best way is to start yourself.
Myselfa was the type who asked if someone could start a modd, but I startet it myslef and it's the better way. Not the easiest, but the better.
And if you are not able to create 3dmodels, like me, ask arround. As it seems there are a lot of people who are interestedt in creating Star Trek Mods.

adding rings for phasers and photon torpedo boxes with saucers and aft sections might not be a bad idea sothe game could stay in tact as well as the ships that are modded
Reply #18 Top
sensors for the aft as well and warp drives in the middle of the necells would be best i think. that way no matter what shipa and tech level you are at the ship will always look the same
