Strange graphics problem

Hello, all. I'm new to this community, and I'm no technical guru, so here's a problem I'm having for all you more computer savvy people out there:

So far as I can tell, the game runs fine, except for one thing. No 3D graphic models (except the star models) are displayed on the main view screen. The only thing I get is the 2D icons, which are only supposed to show up when you zoom out quite a ways. I've zoomed in all the way and still only get the 2D icons. That's just plain weird...anyway, here's what I'm running:

Intel P4 2.4 gig processor
1 Gb RAM
Win XP Pro SP2 English
Geforce 6800 graphics card
SB Audigy 2 ZS audio card
All latest graphic and sound drivers
Virtual memory set at around 3Gb
Screen resolution set at 1280x1024x32
Hardware mouse driver (had problems with disappearing mouse pointer)
All Gfx options turned on, plus system throttling activated

Can anyone please help me resolve this issue, so that I can move on to playing this great game! Thanks in advance for any help any of you out there in the community can provide!

Did you accidentally set the strategic view range all the way down? That effectively sets it to 'always on'.

some where in the options screen you can select how far away you need to be to go to strategic view. You must have to set to close.

Hmm...interesting...I don't remember seeing such an option in the options panel. I'll have to investigate that. Hmph, I thought it would be something simple like that...thanks Sunovich and Darth Kryo, I'll let you know if I fix it...
