Idea for Multiplayer includes the Ship Designer

I was just mulling over the lack of Multiplayer in this game, which is not a problem for me, it's such a superb game overall, but I think I've thought of one fun way to incorporate it which would also include the ship-designer feature of GC2.

You could have a small multiplayer feature where 2 or more players are given a set amount of points and allowed to build as many ships as possible with those points. They could build a few larger, more powerful ships or a lot of smaller, cheaper ships, for example. Then you'd bring them to a deep-space arena and battle it out to see whose fleet was better or more cleverly built. It's just a rough idea but I wanted to share it with everyone for some feedback OR see if any modders might be interested in doing this??

Just doesn't seem like that idea has anything to do with the 4x strategy game. My best hope is that they simply allow pmultiplayer to play just like single player except with lan/online capabilitys. Have options for round time limits, and other than that play as it does now.

I do not want them spending a lot of time trying to "bal;ance" multiplayer o anything, personally I would just like it so my friend and I could hang out and play. because I am playing so much now i is the only way I will see outsiders

I like this idea actually. I think some of you are way too anti-multiplayer. This would be a really cool feature!!

It wouldn't be all that costy to implement as most of the tools are already there, it would use the existing tactical engine, and it would be a lot of fun seeing if your ships could beat another person's fleet of ships.

You could even try out fleets you have made against each other if you don't want to play multi!

You could choose technology level (say early, middle, late etc), hull size limits etc.

Thanks, waitingtoconnect, I feel like it's a simple, easy way for the devs to implement some form of MP for those who would like to see it in the game. (I won't mind if the game never has any MP but it could only make the game better, imho, if done properly.)

Veteran Supreme Shogan: I have read several other MP threads and this isn't so much a post about having MP as it is about a nifty idea that would incorporate the Ship Designer and be easy to implement to boot. I'm not sure if you got that part of my post, so not trying to be rude at all, but just reiterating it for you.

Citizen Johud, actually it's a portion of the 4X game that you play now, when you think about it. The only difference is that you'd be facing off against a real opponent with your creations. It wouldn't play out in Real-Time at all so it'd still be very much TBS.

Just trying to throw out what I consider to be a relatively interesting idea, that's all. Thank you for the feedback everyone. Keep it coming.

This erm "idea", wouldn't be a good pursuit for furthering the vision of Galciv2 and would waste precious man hours that could be doing something usefull that actually improves the current design scheme of the game.

This "idea" would be better suited to a mod that someone could put out. I personally don't think it would be all that fun to be honest unless the mechanics of how fleet combat worked deepened greatly to further enrich the strategic options of this aspect of game play.

Also be aware that in the past Brad mentioned that multiplayer might be available in a future expansion pack if it were technically and finacialy feasable.

This is an interesting little idea.. much like the Melee options in Star Control 2. Kind of a way to battle it out with your favorite looking ships, without having to go through the massive tweaking and balancing that doing multiplayer in the main GC2 game will take.

I think most people would only play multiplayer GalCiv2 to set up games so they could do things like this because the ship design and tactical combat features look so cool. .

Sounds like the multiplayer portion of Rome: Total War, which was good. Maybe a single player version again AI as well?

Yeah, I think it would be a nice and welcome addition to what is already a superbly enjoyable game. I was actually thinking of SC2 a little bit when contemplating the idea. I DO agree with OctaviusVIII that it would be best if they added a bit more depth, though, to the combat if they decided to do something like this. Though I'm happy with the combat as it is for the SP portion of the game, don't get me wrong!
