Ship Appearance/Load-out Question

Ok... I freely admit it... I AM A COMPLETE GALACTIC CIVILIZATION N00B!!!

whew... I have a GC2 question now that I've got that out of the way:

What is the relationship between the weapons load-out on a ship and it's visual appearance? (Or does there not have to be and that's what's confusing me?)

In the MOO and SE series, there was no relationship between the two (at least none that I'm aware of). You'd have to either learn thru espionage, capture a ship, or watch the ordinance fly in combat.

In GC2 it sounds to me like there is, or can be, a relationship between the two. I would just like to know what the situation is because it is one of those little things that would factor into whether or not I buy the game (at least in the short term).

The only things that I've seen so far that I consider anything of a real negative are:
- the game not shipping in one of the new double/triple width DVD clamshell cases (those rock! - lots of space for docs and they're more convenient than the traditional box for intermittent storage)
- the apparent lack of tactical combat (I like that level of combat, but I can see how the flow of the game could/would be better without it.)

In other words, the game looks and sounds pretty cool.
