How do I keep playing after I win?

I just got a victory for defeating the Dread Lords in a game, but I want to finish off all the other races, too - it just started getting good. Someone please tell me how to continue with the game.

Hit new game instead of campaign and you can create a custom universe in which you can slug it out with the other races.

It isn't a campaign. It's a new game with killing the Dread Lords as the objective. I just want to keep going, why wasn't this implemented as simply as it was in Civ3?

Ok, I know what your talking about now, the "just let me play a couple more turns" option after winning a game of Civ3. Its not available in Galciv 2.....it was a nice feature though.

Once the given victory conditions are achieved, the game ends. There is no 'keep playing' option in GalCiv.

...Why the hell not? That's the most rediculous thing i've ever seen in a game of this type. Honestly. The numerous amount of bugs are okay, but why isn't this in the game?

Because the whole point of a 'victory condition' is that you have achieved victory when you've met it. As was posted earlier, if you want to play a game you can continue until you've wiped everybody out, start a sandbox game and deselect the other victory conditions.

In custom games just turn off the other victory types

Yeah well, I've put over 7 hours into this game, and i'd like to keep going. I thought it'd be like civ3, and nothing said otherwise. I just wanted to fight the Dread Lords, but now I have to start over. "Tough luck" is not a valid response, creating the option to keep going would probably take five seconds to code, but they didn't, why? Nobody has answered that, why is the option not there?

It is a good response, simply nobody knows how to hex edit the save game. If you know how to hex edit it, i guess you can continue to play.

Nobody has answered that, why is the option not there?

That because Everyone here tried to tell you that IT ISN'T POSSIBLE AT ALL. Don't try to find a glimmer of hope, because there isn't any, unless if you hex- edit your game.

Because you're playing a scenario. The point of the scenarios is that you're playing under certain limitations and/or conditions, and you have preset goals. If you don't want to play under those conditions, you should play sandbox games, where you are allowed to decide what makes a win and what doesn't. If you could only play scenarios, coding something like a 'keep playing' option might make sense, but when you can customize your playing experience in the sandbox so easily, there's really not reason to.

I'm not asking why i didn't see it, i'm asking why it isn't programmed into the game in the first place.

Kid Charming has already answered that for you.

EDIT: entire text removed, see above post for the basic jist of this one

Because nobody who plays a scenario will ever want to keep going when they're done, right?

No, because you play a scenario to complete the objective given. Once that objective is complete there's no point continuing the scenario. If all you want to to is eliminate everyone, then don't play that scenario. Play a scenario where killing everyone is the objective, or don't play a scenario at all.

It is possible to create a scenario where killing the Dreadlords does not end them game, though. . .

That has got to be one of the most hilarious statements I've ever read. Is there some strange programming rule that says a developer has to list every way its software is different from other developers' software? To imply that the developers are somehow idiotic for not including a feature that you feel is so obvious is ridiculous and unproductive. A lesson in etiquitte: if you'd like a feature that doesn't exist, you may want to ask for it nicely.

It is possible to create your own scenario or edit the existing scenario to allow you to continue. Just take out the victory event.

[EVENT]
count=1
[EVENT0]
type=1
race=11
outcome=1
description=Defeat the Dread Lords to win.
