Have too say that the forum sux...

This has got too be one of the worst forums I have ever been on... wherever you guys are hosting this from sux big time. The server traffic is either too strong for your host or you need to fix this site. The indications from me on this subject are...

1. My first post did not end up in the bug reports section (even though I started it there) lets hope this one does.

2. I keep getting timeout errors on the pages that I try to access (some of the bug reports mostly the mod section)

3. Finally just lodaing the homepage seems too be a burden and a half.

... Now before 2147483648 fanboys slam my post for voicing my opinion remember that the forum is to report problems. not just suck up.

They're definitly not the best forum around I agree... but the Stardock staff makes up for that.

The volume of posts that popular forums experience, the usual cause of forum slowdowns, usually means "good things' for said forums - at least it speaks to their popularity and usually to their usefulness. That being said, I would be curious as to whether they use a PHP/MySQL solution or a slower and buggier Microsoft SQL solution - or something else entirely. Most PHP/MySQL solutions like phpBB can deal with even large volumes of postings fairly effeciently.

The forum is being improved as we speak, in the next few days, the forum is going to be in a much better shape.

The problem is simply a matter of # of people accessing the database.

It's pretty common, unfortunately, for forums to get pretty congested shortly after a major release. It's not unique to this forum.

Yep, I've noticed this too - getting lots of timeout problems if my bandwidth is in use by other apps , but problems go away if I stop them and retry.
Just my tupence, but it looks to me like an ASP.NET configuration problem. Try upping the default timeout for the webserver from 30 secs iirc. Probably somewhere in web.config or machine.config.....

I understand the bandwidth problems, I manage a forum with 200K ++ posts per year.

I would like to see something more conformed to the normal forum type however.
This forum can be navigated after a few hours of getting to know the layout, but it is definitely not organized like your average everyday forum is, and I am sure that is what causes 50% of the frustration you see here.

I made a topic asking something on moding, it didn't post. So I made it again. Still isn't there.

You should purchase professional grade forum software, something along the lines of Invision Power Board. It helps get alot of the useless cpu utilization and databases queries down to a minimum, especially when compared to PHPBB and whatever this forum is running.

Stardock is to blame for this. They made such a kick ass game so now the forums are too congested.

But seriously, I would also like to see a more standard layout of these forums.

I too have seen what the original poster has described, that is a post showing up in the main forum when one was viewing another forum. I thought I screwed up the first couple of times that my post ended up in the wrong forum, but I've learned that wasn't the case.

I think I have found a workaround to the post going into the wrong forum issue:

Edit your post, and change the forum feild at the top of the screen to the desired destination.

Heh if you think this is bad you should try the EA forums for THE SIMS 2 lol, that's the slowest loading forum and posts of any forum I've ever visited. And yes this one is slow (especially for me on dialup), and I get those occassional page errors as well. But, it's not really the forum that suks, it's the servers and the machines behind the forum.

This forum is much better than Torrentspy. Even with DSL it sometimes fails to load past the ads.
