How annoying is the campaign ending!?

Just finished the campaign and im not pleased.
all those missions of essentially running away with the hope of eventually getting some precursor tech and kicking arse and when you do finally get to that damned pocket planet the campaign ends. i dont want to spend months waiting for an expansion pack till i can kill some dreadlords, its a disgrace.

When does the campaign end anyway? I'm on the Tiny galaxy map where you have to retake that planet from the Dread Lords. I just got done with that Gigantic galaxy where you have to protect Earth and send those transports 8 honking sectors south to that lone planet.

I have to admit, though, I don't particularly mind if I spend this campaign running away--IF, in an expansion, we get to do as you say and finally beat them down with a stick later.

I'm done with the campaign now. The ending was disappointing.
