Is it me, or has range been extended in Galciv2?

Hello all!

I've been playing medium sized maps (perfect size for me as I always seem to forget micromanagement things on the larger maps) and I've noticed something about the initial range for ships. My memory may be fuzzy, but in Galciv1 I swear it took approx 2 "upgrades" in range tech (unless you spent on points at the beginning) to have the ability to travel from end to end on a medium map, but it seems you can almost do this fom the get-go in Galciv2 (I can get everywhere but the outermost squares at the start)...anyone know if range has been extended? If so this blows as it messes up part of the strategy on a medium map (go for range to possibly get more planets, spend elsewhere and rely on chance/luck?).

Thank you kindly!

I don't know whether base range has been explicitly extended, but I know that it's much easier to extend your range in GC2. Just tweak the design of your ship so it has more life support.

Well, the initial ships have several range modules in them, but at the cost of speed.

I dunno.. maybe a little more bang for your buck than the ol' GC-1 life support
