Gamespot PC Weekly has nice words for GalCiv II

They like it, they really, really like it

Congrats again to the nice folks at StarDock, as they have picked up a few kudos from the folks at Gamespot, specifically in the Week of March 7, 2006's PC Weekly newsletter (typically mailed out to Gamespot site members that sub to the newsletters there).

The choice quotes can be found below, (temporarily were in the comments area, now copied here in the main article).

Summarized here to say: They like it, they really, really like it.

(And double kudos to Brad and the folks that are responsible for the A.I., as it gets the best comments).

The choice quotes:

Perhaps an even pleasanter surprise arrived in Galactic Civilizations II, a "4X" strategy game in the vein of our 2005 PC Game of the Year, Civilization IV. GalCiv 2 is the spiritual successor to games like Master of Orion, and it features an extremely well-designed, addictive structure that'll keep you riveted if you've got an inkling of interest in this type of experience. It's also got remarkably good artificial intelligence; how often do you hear us saying that about any game? Apparently GalCiv 2's grass-roots support and exceptional quality is turning it into this season's PC sleeper, so don't be late to the party and check it out!

In a side bar:

After all, you could be hitting the "next turn" button in Galactic Civilizations II right this second. Unless you're at work. That would be uncool.

That would be a great honor, and hopefully one that StarDock and GalCiv II could win

alot of games can come out between now and then particularly the possibility of a fall launch of spore but galciv2 is definelty a contender for GOTY or PCGOTY and i hope it wins its just too good not ot win

I doubt spore will make a fall launch. The 30 min video demo of the game with will wright is very very impressive. Like BLOW your freakin MIND impressive, but the game is definately a sandbox game like the sims...so if you hated the sims you will hate this game too. Will and crew said they are still working out what to do with somethings, especially the Galatic level of the game isn't feature complete yet. The game might be out in time for Christmas...but probably not. Spore is definatly a land mark title(if not perhaps the most ambitious title ever made) that will pave the way for future titles. There is some incredibly cool technology going on in that game that I have never seen done before anywhere.

Galciv2 has a good chance for best Turn Based Strategy game of the year, but as over all game of the year....sorry no.

I do have a bone to pick with Brad and his game. It's been keeping me up and I haven't had any sleep the last few days.

It really should come with a warning on the box

GalCiv2 is an awesome game, but I have my hopes on Oblivion for GOTY

Well, as I turns out, I was in the same boat last nite. I had printed off the beginners guide to the game and used it to get a good start on things. After a little more struggling in learning how to colonize, I went to town in researching and building, and played a good long time, until about 2am... Was quite fun, even as I watched myself get trashed by the Drengin at the end of the game.

I have a few suggestions I'll make elsewhere, but again it was great fun.

If the game doesn't crash, you don't get to. Its like being hooked on crack, you keep going till its all gone.
