Is this a joke?!?!?1

I bought the game from Bestbuy because EBGames still didn't have it two weeks after I purchased it. So, I had to download the CE content and the first patch on-line. Fine, it all worked well, and I enjoyed the game for almost two weeks. I download the full patch today, 1.0X 3/6 build...... and now I have to register the game??? huh... why? My PC will never see the on-line service, it will never be connected to the net, it is a game only machine. Now I have to register the game, huh... that isn't good.

Why did the first build and patch work so well, but now I need to do this? Ugh. I read the forums and found trouble ticket discussing this, but ugh, come on.. this sucks. My internet has been spotty at home for weeks, so I have to cut and paste from one computer to the next and wait.. this sucks.

I've been playing for over a week and I haven't had to "register" yet.

I bought the game at Best Buy, because I didn't feel like driving to the mall to check EBGames, went home and installed it. It asked for my serial number, which was printed legibly on a sticker on the CD case, but said it was "optional". I entered it anyway. The game installed and I went to patch. Ug, patches, huh? It asked for my serial number again. I entered it, and everything has been patching fine ever since.

It certainly doesn't "suck" from my point of view.

My experience has been identical to MinionJoe's, all I've done is put the serial in when I installed the game and when I first hit the website to d/l patches. No registration has ever been required of me. So yes, it is a joke. A joke you're pulling, or you're clicking something wrong.

Problem is.. this PC isn't connected to the net... never will be, and all my other computers are MAC's.. until this game came out... I haven't used a PC since 1995. I have to do everything 3rd party through my MAC's.. makes it complicated, and to top it off, my net access at home has been terrible..

I hate you Adelphia.. I hate YOU!!!

I wish I was joking.

If it's not connected, then you can't patch anyway. The serial number is only required to patch the game.

Do you have the registration number in the back of the CD? I believe that the registration is just to give you access to future patches and expansions from the SDC. I registered my game in SDC once and I have downloaded everything without having to register the game again. I know how you feel about internet, I am having to change to roadrunner because my dial-up is driving me to interneticide. Crazy slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

thing is... I can download on my mac... the one I am posting from.. since I use this as my net access... and my other mac's that are networked at home, but the PC has no net connection at all. SO everytime I download the patch, I will have to go through this process of registering or not? that is what I want to know.

No, once you have the game registered in SDC, you can download and paste on your PC. I do it all the time from my computer at work and the one I have at home, but I don't know about MAC, have to ask the devs about it.

The peeps at Stardock are on top of it...

Let me make something clear.. I LOVE THIS GAME... and I haven't experienced 1/100th of the problems discussed, and the few little things I've noticed, I could deal with...

I did have a few CTD's, but I autosave every two turns, and it only happened twice...

I noticed the 0 movement for donated ships.. but only when I donate them in fleets.. if I do one ship at a time, there isn't a problem.

But overall.. I totally love this game.

So there.

You should be able to archive the game on one PC using Stardock Central and restore it on another if you need to get a copy to a machine without internet access.

Wireless cards are pretty cheap nowadays, though.

greenreaper.. no doubt...

My way to keep the pc virus/trojan/etc free is to not connect it to the net. Back in the day I lost a senior thesis due to some weird virus etc..... whatever, anyways. Thanks for the support, you guys rock.

Mike H with support rocks, props to him.
