Influence Flood

Seems to happen randomly just after one of my planets gets conquered but the whole map turns yellow influence.

May be linked to the planetary invasion bug as the computer gains an outrageously large population. Therfore gets major influence boost but need to verify that.

Is a savegame 'after' the influence flood has happened any use as i have one of these.

bit tricky to get a savegame just before it happens but will try.

I encountered this in my favor once. It ended up going away after a half-dozen turns or so.

What happens is that sometimes after a planet is conquered, it will somehow end up with an insane population (thousands of trillions of people or more). The massive population creates a huge amount of influence. Then a turn or two later, the game realizes you can't actually have a population that high on that planet, and the excess population dies. After that, the excess influence generated by the insane population gradually wears off.

I just had this happen to me, i was playing a 6 person normal diff game. The Drengins had just pushed the Yor to a point where they surrender to somebody and they picked the Terrans. So next turn Yor is gone and now Terrans control the enitre map, ownership showed the entire minimap as blue. I made a savegame the turn it happened (the turn the map went blue) but I cant remember where to send it.

The "Influence Flood" happened to me last night when I conquered Iconia from the Yor Collective as the Torian Confederation. I thought something was wrong when everything turned green on the minimap. I also have a save of this after it hit. Every planet which I didn't own had a poison sign on it as I had 1900 influence. Then after I hit turn twice, it went back to normal. Too bad I didn't get any free planets during those turns. Gigantic map, normal, all 10 races.

I had this happen to me also. I almosts lost planets in a game where I owned half of the galaxy. It can be a game ruiner alright.

Happens to me as well. I played on a small uni, cakewalk difficulty, 9 races, conqured all but one and out of nowhere (literally) the map turned cyan and I lost the game.

Here's the killer. I had influence turned OFF. This is the second time there's been an influence victory that isn't mine with that victory condition in the off position.

In a threat titled "Amazing Planet Capture Glitch" the same basic problem is described.

Post number 2 in that thread is as follows:-

This bug has been fixed, and the next update will take care of it. "

So it looks like things have been taken care of.

Ooops... apologies... I should have looked closer...

I just posted an identical bug -- but since it was happening to me as the invader, I was focusing on planet invasion bug reports.

The problem for me is that it really screws me over in a very entertaining game (gigantic map, conquest only, I'm the sole surviving "good" race.... I end up in revolution due to my 1% approval).

Is there any way around this until we see the patch?

I really hate to abandon this game -- as noted in the other report, I've tried reloading, backing up to previous saves... nothing works.

What if I make peace in the current war?

Aaaarrrrgggghhh!!!! I haven't posted any complaints about the crashers -- but this particular problem is INCREDIBLY frustrating. Is there a file I can just change or some way to avoid this, or am I doomed to experience this problem and have to abandon this particular game? The stars aligned and gave me the absolutely PERFECT map to play on - and I've probably got 10-12 hours invested already.

Heh it happened to me too in my recent game, but, I didn't lose any planets, but, the other AI races were losing a planet a turn to the YOR. Well I had lotsa money so I bribed all the other races to attack the YOR. I took it's capital the 2nd turn right smack dab in the middle of the purple, but, still they own 3/4ths of the map by influence now. Seems it has to do with that propaganda invasion ability. I've had populations of 4987684.00b after the battle and a popularity of 1 and when I end turn 1/2 my empire revolts. lol I guess for the AI it's different in that respect when it happens. Glad they are fixing it. But, the war is fun, 7 races all attacking 1, we have destroyed over 3/4ths of it's ships now and I'm just picking and choosing what planets I want....that 30 class planet is going to be nice in my empire soon.

Ah-ha!

My hero!

I guess it pays to follow the linky-links -- I'll just stay away from info invasions... what the heck - even though I'm off on my own against Intelligent Yor, Drengin, and Korx - this way I can even say I beat the AI with one hand tied behind my back.

...and...uhhh... if the AI gods are monitoring this thread - I submit that it was COMPLETELY fair for me to get a couple "re-rolls" since my invasion was predicated on getting 2-3 billion partisans on my side.

Just save and reload after it happens, everything goes back to normal.

Had this happen in my game but it wasnt a bug, it was an uprising. Pushed the whole map under its influence, any unhappy planets will then rebel to the new culture.

Are you sure this was not what happened in your game? After a few turns it went back to normal, basically the end of the uprising
