Pirates ahoy!!!!

is there a way to be rid of pirates? their fleets are huge and their technology is superior to any player (including myself) which is stupid.

Pirates aren't that bad. Just treat them like dreadlords and destroy them with large fleets of small defenseless ships. It might be possible to nerf the pirates by editing the GC2Ships.xml file if you want to try that though.

i had a late game where i had researched most of the tech tree and had the biggest baddest ships possible and they had a group of like 25 of the toughest ships ever with more then 1000 attack and defense, thats just wrong.

I've never seen any pirates, even after the event pops up.

I've had several pirate fleets of 30 or more ships (ranging from Huge to medium hulls, mostly huge and large) with combined attacks of 5000+ laser, and combined defense of 10000+ armor (numbers elsewhere varied, but were usually in the hundreds, if not thousands). Their logistics were at 194 (mine were at 34, maxed out), and their huge ships had 130 hp, compared to my 76. It literally takes me several dozen fleets of huge ships to whittle them down and kill them, meanwhile they happily annihilate my defense fleets, freighters, and any starbases in the area.

yeah. it seems like pirates are a bit out of wack sometimes. Pirates should be an annoyance, not the ultimate military force in the universe. I mean, where the hell are they getting these ships sometimes?!

My stepdad has developed a strategy for dealing with pirates. I haven't fought pirates yet, so I can't verify.

He ignored them and went to go do other things, eventually winning a Technological Victory.

Damn Reavers and their huge fleet that can take out the entire Alliance fleet waiting in Ambush... oh wait...

(But yeah, I agree - they do seem way overpowered when they appear late game - which thankfully has only happened once for me so far).

Does this mean that a pirate frequency setting similar to the Civ IV Barbarians would be needed?
