Galactic Civilizations II: 1.0X released

AI updates, bug fixes, usability enhancements, oh my!

Galactic Civilizations II v1.0X has been released.  If you have previously downloaded one of the pre-releases you'll want to update to this version.  Version 1.0X inclues a bunch of new options including GPU throttling, video controls, tweaks to game balance, bug fixes, and much more. In theory this version should resolve all known compatibility issues that we have control over (users absolutely need to make sure they have recent video drivers and if they have a dual-core AMD to make sure they're running the latest chipset drivers if they run into any issues).

You can read the full list of changes HERE.

A lot of time has gone into cleaning up the ship design stuff.  The ship designer in the game has kind of taken on a life of its own. We're glad people love it. We've done our best to make things like upgrading and modifying easier to do in this version and more robust.  As one person in the forum put it, it's like having a CAD program bundled with a game (though a lot easier to use of course).

You can download it from Stardock Central or from the Downloads page.

I'm a bit confused. I already had 1.0X before this was posted, like a couple days before. Is this a different version of 1.0X? The updater made me up date, so I imigine so... but hmm.

You could get this from Stardock a few days ago, yeah. I was playing this version on Saturday.

Frogboy, any word on the 0 movement points for a fleet when a new turn starts bug that was introduced in this patch?

Other than that, great stuff guys.

Wow-I am a 59 year old strategy gamer and I must say I have never seen this much customer service
or such a sense the makers of the game actually care about the people that play the game-great job guys!

personaly, more patches the better, I HATE EA !!! with passion and how they do there stuff

I like the idea of workin on the little bugs that really screw stuff up and gettin them outa the way as soon as they are found to be a problem and not have to wait months for a patch that just screws stuff up reallllly bad after like 2 months of testing it

then again ea could mess up a wet dream, heh

Mine said I downloaded 1.0X.001 Version, which the changelog seemed to mention fixing quite a bit we had reported. But maybe I had fallen asleep again- I dream of GalCivII when I'm not playing it.

Oh when i said the bug was still there, i was talking about the latest 1.0X.1 Patch. NOT 0009

Logic, yea, send me a saved game, I'd like to check that out. brad at stardock.com.

Never mind my earlier comments. It seems you guys released another patch, I just downloaded it. The 0 movement bug is already tackled. Excellent work

(I got confused because I redownloaded the game this weekend and saw the option for Graphics Throttling in there already, so I assumed you'd released over the weekend.)

Savegame is sent, from my email address, LogicSequence is in the address so you shouldn't have any problems identifying it.

EDIT: i forgot the file on the first message, so wait just a sec for the next email, it has the file

DOH!!!

Ship design = Scrolling on ships please

Rotate around a given point is now hampering our creative abilities LOL as you cant see the end of the ship once you get to any length. Scrolling would change that as you could move around and then zoom in on the area you are looking to change. Thanks good work guys

Thanks very much!
One thing you mentioned in patch preview was better alt-tabbing, but I am afraid I noticed no difference whatsoever. Is this -- or, alternatively, resizable window in windowed mode -- something that will make it into a future patch?

Nice!

However, when are we going to be able to copy, modify, and save under a different name the core ship designs? I first asked for this back in Dec. during the Beta, see my post under my former name "Lord Darx" Link

Or how about my other suggestions for improving the shipyard? See Link

I like the new shipyard upgrade that removes all the space taking pieces from the ship, good job on that. I know some people like to name their ships with a unique way but I still would like that when upgrading ships their names would change to new one too.

Another major issue which I hope is fixed soon, is that if you give ships to another civilization, they don“t use em at all. I mean I gave 20 ships to minor race dark Yor. They have 10 Drengi ships outside their only home planet, but what do dark Yor do with the new ships? Nothing, they just stay still doing nothing

sam0t,

They do use them, if they are smart enough I guess. I played a game this weekend where a minor race was being crushed by the Drengin, and they asked me for help. I sent them 2 of my uber ships (was maxed out on tech) and they used these ships in the very next turn to rip the Drengin a new one

Please fix the Mouse Scroll of the Main window issue? It does not work correctly a considerable amount of the time.

Also, would you please make the Window push faster (100% on the option slider is not fast enough)?

One last request please consider making the Arrow Keys remapable so they can be made to Scroll the Main Window?

This is my biggest wish for this game. I am a committed, but not a hardcore player that will likely submit to the Metaverse (I think I did once or twice with GalCiv; never with AP though), but with all the units sold there will likely be many like me that simply play for the fun of it. I can imagine that when others try to make the Game Window move they too might become a little frustrated when it fails to respond.

I know there are other methods to use but this is the preferred method for me at the viewing range I like to play at.

Thank you

I'll turn off the Fan-boy mode for a second here

From a completely unbiased point of view, you deserve kuddos for releasing so many patches so fast after the release. HOWEVER, and some reviews are picking this up, the initial game's release was riddled with minor bugs.

Now, please don't attack me on a personnal level. I know this game didn't have the kind of budgets that big-bang games do, didn't have the same size of development team.

I was just saying that big brand-names get flamed down real quick when they release a very buggy game - though they still sale.

Stardock's saving grace is that they are an indie developper who have a great fanbase supporting them and spreading around the word and also their customer service/dedication to patching it up real fast.

Now, Fanboy switch on:

Yes! Patches = me happy! More tweaks! Keep 'em coming
