Where is the 1.0X patch on the GalCiv 2 website?

Okay, I go to the downloads section

https://www.galciv2.com/Downloads.aspx

I see at the top of the page

" Galactic Civilizations Retail update to v1.0X - YES this is the latest update!

Download this regardless of how you purchased Galactic Civilizations"

Except, the icon on the left takes me to TotalGaming net to buy GC2, while the "Download" button on the right takes me to the collector's edition page, which has

"Enable Collectors Edition Content only (Windows 9x/2000/XP):

To access the in-game Collectors Edition content, you must have the latest version of the game installed (either via standalone update from GalCiv2.com or Stardock Central).

Download and run this setup program to enable the in-game CE content.

Install Galactic Civilizations II & Desktop Enable Collectors Edition (Windows XP or later):

Run this setup program below to enable in-game Collectors Edition content and install the Galactic Civilizations II Desktop. You must have the latest version of the game installed (either via standalone update from GalCiv2.com or Stardock Central)."

Neither one appears to be the patch.

When I click on the gree "Download" button following the link in your post, the first item I see is as follows. Note the first line in the description says it has the latest updates to the game (1.0x):

Galactic Civilizations II Bonus Pack (includes latest version):
The Bonus Pack is now out and downloadable via Stardock Central (v1.0D or higher) or you can download it directly here.

The Bonus Pack includes:
+ Latest updates to the game (1.0X)
+ Additional new visual effects
+ Several new ship components
+ New Computer AI levels
+ A few gameplay tweaks from playing the gold master
+ Full screen video support for tutorials
+ 3 new large hulls
+ 4 new maps
+ 4 new scenarios
+ Ability to enter money via keyboard in the diplomacy screen
+ Smarter tooltips
+ 15 new race logos for custom races
+ Detailed Revision History

Well, that's not what I get. I just get taken to the Collector's Edition page.

You might try refreshing your cache of your browser.

What happens when you select "update game" from the opening GalCiv2 game menu?

There's always Stardock Central.

I just tried launching the game and picking update (I have the serial number entered into the game) and the same thing happened. That just launched my web browser, which went to the downloads page, no entry for the patch.

I got the first patch last week okay. Guess I'll try clearing out the cache, good idea.

Edit:

Didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though.

And don't get me started on Stardock Central. I hate that thing. Despise it. Loathe it. It caused nightmarish problems for me when I had the first Gal Civ (I stupidly bought the Expansion Pack for it via download via Stardock Central). Maybe it was just my computer, maybe it was Win 98, but stardock central caused quite a variety of problems for me: crashing, screwing up the destop, fonts, etc.

I would sooner install a game with Starforce on my computer, than Stardock Central.

Anyway, I know I'm registered, I entered the serial into the game itself when I installed, and I know I entered something when I downloaded the first patch last week, though maybe that was just the collector's edition serial number that came on the extra slip. But I did have to change my email addresses, maybe that caused a problem.

So anyway, maybe I need to register the game again. Is there a page where I can enter my serial number for GC2? To see if I entered it wrong, or if it's missing? Looking under my account I don't see anything. (The last time I got asked when I went to download the first patch)

Hmmmm. Or maybe it's because I'm using Firefox (1.07).

SD Sites don't always play nice with Firefox. If you're going to grab updates via the web, IE is the way to go.

Also, SDC has come a long way since the GC1 days. It used to bomb out on me all the time too, but not anymore. I'd give it a look again at the very least. Some probs still exist, but they're pretty minor. Much easier to manage patches that way.

All right, I just tried this myself, and it worked:

Go to: https://www.galciv2.com/collectorsedition/

Type your serial number into the left-side "Serial Number" text box.

Click "Get Updates".

Click the "Download" button just to the right of "Galactic Civilizations II Bonus Pack (includes latest version)".

That should bring up a download dialog box for you to download and save the patch to run. I'm using Opera 8.5, and I generally find that if a website works in Opera it'll work in every other browser too.

I'll echo the recommendation to give Stardock Central another try, though. It's worked just fine for me since the game was released.

Does anyone know what's the difference between build 1.0X.009 (that I installed 2-3 days ago) and 1.0X.010 that I see now?

Merak: Jeremy's location shows him as being in the US, so I doubt he has the Paradox version.

Nastavnik: Try this list: https://forums.galciv2.com/?ForumID=164&AID=104660

I'm guessing that the stuff in blue is what's different.

Stardock Central is your friend. Click one button and it's downloaded and installed for you automatically.

Thanks Jeysie.
I must have had a brain hiccup, 'cos I'd been to that page and did not see the blue part before

Hmmmm. I don't see a serial number text box on the left side of the page.

All I see is "Home","Databanks", etc. Then to the right of that is "My Posts", "Watch List", "My Account"

I bought it at Walmart in Fenton, so it's not an issue of having a European version.

Like I said, I had massive problems with Stardock Central when I had the original Gal Civ, and I am not installing that on my new computer and risk all the horrible problems it caused. I would sooner install a game with Starforce, because that just might destory my DVD drive, SDC ruined my entire desktop, which makes the PC very hard to use, period.

I'm using firefox 1.5.0.1 and it works fine, I just went to my profile, clicked "downloads" from the menu, and it took me there. Failing that try here:

No, wasn't a problem with my browser

Apparently I had entered my collector's edition serial number, but not the game serial number (though I entered that when I installed the game, I guess there was no point in doing that)

Poking around , I found this page which let me enter my serial number

https://www.galciv2.com/registration.aspx

Thank you so much Stardock, for your excellent customer service (that is sarcasm, BTW, though pretty much fits the lousy service I experienced with Gal Civ 1)

The 1.0X.010 is the final official (stable) patch before 1.1. The X.009 is a pre-release to X.010.

why dont you just download the collecters eddition with the patch, i ended up doing that which sucked but i still got the update , but i had to reinstall the collecters eddition content

I think this is unfair. I mean, what more information did you want?

If you click on "Downloads" on the left-side nav bar, there's a message right in the middle at the top that says "Galactic Civilizations Retail update to v1.0X - YES this is the latest update!" and a green download button next to it.

If you click on the green download button, you get a page which, right in the middle at the top, says "To get the Collectors Edition Downloadables or the latest game update enter your serial number or Collectors Editions number in the form below."

There are two boxes below it, the left one labelled "Serial Number:". If you put your serial number in there, and click the grey button on the right labelled "Get Updates", you get taken to a new page that says right in the middle at the top: "Galactic Civilizations II Bonus Pack (includes latest version): The Bonus Pack is now out and downloadable via Stardock Central (v1.0D or higher) or you can download it directly here."

There's a green Download button to the right of that, and if you click on it, you get the update file to download.

So, I mean... I really don't want to be rude, but I can't think of another way to put all this. The update file is in a IMHO logical spot (Downloads) and there are IMHO explicit instructions on each page in the series. What more information did you want?

How in the hell did Stardock Central destroy your desktop? That seems absurd.

At anyrate, SDC has evolved *quite a bit* since then. You really should try it out.
At least my box had only one serial number, which was only good for the right-side box on the "log in to download" page. So I couldn't get the update! The link to get the other serial # was hidden in this thread. great service

lwahonen:

Since you don't have your location listed in your profile, forgive me if I'm wrong, but... Did you get the game from Paradox? If so, there is a "Bought your game in Europe? Click here." message on the top of the Downloads page.

Peace & Luv, Liz
Their only being 1 serial number on the European English version was Paradox's oversight. We've got a webpage specifically to issue you one. Short of coming to your house with a new sticker, that's pretty good.

I'm having problems downloading the latest build (don't have collector edition) as whenever I try to download it, it always takes me to the collectoredition page (https://www.galciv2.com/collectorsedition/) and when I click on the first download button it takes me to "The page cannot be displayed"
