Gifted Ships AI Bug?

Hey Everyone,
I have noticed in the latest patch that gifted ships to AI still dont seem to do anything. I have given ships to both minor and major races only to have them sit motionless for the remainder of the game. Can this be fixed? It greatly affects the game of someone who likes others to fight their wars for them.

I've seen problems with this before, but as a work-around, the AI seems to work better if you move the ships near to the AI's planets before trading them.

I've wondered that too.. Maybe it takes 'em (the aliens ) a while to figure out where's drive and how to get it out of park..

Maybe it has something to do with the ships being gifted outside of the race's support range?

I agree MinionJoe, my first thought was that they didnt know how to do the 'auto-pilot' back to their supported ship range, but I think I have also had some ships close enough that they should have been fine, and the AI should have been desperate for the ships (it was getting its ass whooped bad).
Sorry if this was a duplicate post, BTW...I saw one from waaaay back about gifting to minor races, but that was it when searching the forum for 'gift ships', 'gifted ships to AI', etc, etc. Speaking to this, I am already finding the forum is getting bloated when looking for specific issues. Is there any way we could have version specific threads such that they get deprecated when new versions are released?

P.S. - I forgot to mention how much the game rocks in general!!

I've only gifted ships once so far and it seemed to work but I moved all the ships into the recipients territory.

I gifted a very nice ship to a minor race. It sat around for some time then went and attacked their enemy. I lost track of it but way later I saw that they had given it to the Drengins, because it came back to fight me.
