Starbase Ship Defense Assists

I just read the "Known Glitch" thread and was surprised not to see this. Makes me wonder if I am missing something...

There are options to upgrade a Military Starbase to boost the defense of ships within range. Same premise as boosting attack, except it does not work. Read the manual and see no mention of defense, only attack. Bug?

If your ships do not have a defense rating, there is nothing to boost. It seems to be working correclty for me when it is assisting ships that have some sort of defense rating already.

I'm not sure what you mean "it does not work." I look at the ships in range of the starbase on they have boosted defense.

However, I note that there appears to be a one-turn delay in the effect: i.e., if I move a zero-defense fighter into range of a starbase with defense-boosting modules, it has no defense at that time. At the beginning of the next turn, it displays a positive defense value. This works in reverse, too: a ship that's been sitting in range of a defense-boosting starbase will not lose the boost immediately upon leaving the base's area of effect. Only if it ends its turn outside the area of effect will the boost disappear.

EDIT: in light of the post above, I should note that I've only actually checked with ships that already have some limited defense capability. That is, I didn't actually check to see if a ship with no defense of any kind would experience a boost. That may be the problem (and would seem to be a good game-balance solution to the problem of over-tough ships).

Agree with Oxonian. I have had no issues but I have never built a ship with out a bit of defense.

Military starbases are boosting correctly. They only boost stats in which you have at least 1 in already. So, for a purely defensive fleet in range of a military starbase, ships with 1/1/1 for attack and 1/1/1 for defense are superior.

If they're only supposed to boost stats you already have a 1 in already, they're not working correctly.

Currently as long as you have a 1 in any attack you get boosts to all three, and likewise for defense.

So if you have a starbase that gives +1/+1/+1 A and +1/+1/+1 D, then your ship that is 1/0/0 1/0/0 will be a 2/1/1 2/1/1 while in range. That seems broken to me and I should only have a 2/0/0 2/0/0 ship.

As it currently stands, it's very easy to build ships that have vastly overpowered defense because a single peice of armor can get you a quick +4/+4/+4 defense with only 4 SB modules.
