Alliances-i am a stupid newb

HOW!
I'm in the alternative mission to where the dread lords pop in and I need to ally with the T____ somethingorotheres
I've gotten my relationship close and everything...but I've never seen an "alliance" button or text in the negotiation screen or foreign screen -HELP!

Have you researched the Alliance technology? It is in the Governmets line of technologies at the top of the tech tree.

which compaign mission is it?
I believe in all the campaign missions, you're already allied with the other good civs, and already at war with the evil civs... not sure you can even change that.
If you're talking about the "Siege" mission, where you're trying to get the Torians to ally with you, it's part of the overall objective... once you take the planet to complete the mission, in the next map you will automatically be allied with the Torians to begin.
