I just put that spathi together quickly... i was playing around with proportions and stuff, I only have SC2 so i have no 3d perspective, and since this is a 3d designer... Does anyone have 3D renderings of SC ships i can use as a guidline? I am working on the Earth Cruiser now, that will be another easy one.

i loved the speech of the races in SC3, especially the spathi's dialogues were too funny.

I've made a new stars file to replace the vanilla star names with stars from Star Control 2. Soon as I find hosting I'll link to it.

If you email it to me, I'll host it.

Your email bounced, I'll try again tomorrow.

I'm thinking I'll randomly pick a SC race (I'm leaning toward the ones with decent art available from SC2) and implement it. If it goes well, it shouldn't take more than a couple of days to create a new .xml replacing the current races with Starcon ones.

Now, if only the race screen was a list, so we could have more than 11...

Hey, sorry to bring up an OLDDDDDD post, but i really like this idea *points to name*
i'v been intrested in Galciv2 for awhile, i still dont actually have the game yet... But i may end up getting it, if nothing else then just for the modability.

I'm an amueture 3D graphics designer, doing some work for a game called Paintball 3D WWW Link but i'v been thinking of making a SC mod for something... just wasent sure what up till now.

So if anybody who has any moding ability wants to help, i'll be more then glad to provide any 2D or 3D art for anything needed in the game.
Just tell me what to do and i'll get on it!

In regards to whether Star Control 2 was better than 3. I would definitely agree that 2 was way better. But the reason why I say that is not just because of the plot etc of the full games, but because of the actual melee combat itself. In starcon3 the ships were hugely unbalanced in terms of their point value and actual usefulness and the way the planet and gravity worked was horendous in comparison to Starcon 2. Also, did you ever fight a computer flying dak-tak-lak-tak (or whatever they were called)? The computer would sometimes just fly on the border of the screen forever letting out mines never doing much anything else. It was very annoying.

Also, the homing ability of the missles in SC3 would actually aim where the enemy ship was going, making it near impossible to manoever in such a way to avoid the missiles like you used to be able. This severally changed the balance of the game. In SC2 you could actually stand a good chance of dodging the homing missle if you flew at almost right angle to the direction it is coming at, which gave a vux at least a fighting chance to get to a planet to swing.

The full games in star control were fun, but the real joy was playing melee against friends where you could set a team point limit. SC3 just couldn't cut it in this regard. Mind you the points assignments in SC2 weren't perfect either, but they were much better. Example, why would you ever buy an Ilwrath for 10 points when you could get a Thraddash for the same? Anyhow, it's nice to think back about a great old game.
