video problem, need help

need help

Hey, i decided to buy Gal Civ 2 after my friend showed it to me, and I thought it was awesome. THe problem was, my other computers got broken (don't ask how, i won't say), and i was left with a pentium 3 laptop. However, i jumped for joy when it met the very very very minimum specifictations, and as i said, i bought it, downloaded all the components, and played. despite some choppiness, it was good, however, i noticed that none of the pop up videos worked. the cultural victory video worked, the intro video worked, and i was left clueless. what happened was the videos froze in the screen, and the sound kept going. i checked to see if the videos downloaded and they did. so i was wondering, can someone help me with this? i appreciate any help, and i would like to thank stardock for making this an awesome game, way above my initial expectations (because i like having low expectations, if the thing i'm expecting is good, i feel better about it). thanks, here are my specs.

Pentium 3, 700 something mhz
64 mb integrated graphics, latest drivers
no sound card
256 mb of ram
30 gb hard drive
cool screen
thats about it

What screen resolution are you running? Have you tried disabling some of the advanced gfx options?

You have "no sound card" and yet "the sound kept going"; maybe I'll take out mine too and get better sound

Yep same problem here, used to happen with the intro video but that seems find now. Also happened with the tutorials which theres another thread for but strangely that works fine if I viewed the tutorials in full screen. But the first time videos (i.e. first anomaly, first colonization, first invasion etc.) are choppy but sound continues playing fine throughout.

I have the same exact problem as defiant. No idea why it happens though; sound plays perfectly but the video stops. I have a Nvida fx 5200. Not the best but should be able to run fine with the game

It's probably due to your integrated sound card. Check your debug.err to see what is being reported for your sound card and then go to the card's manufacturer website.  Since it's integrated, you may need to go to the website of the motherboard's manufacturer, or your computer manufacturer (Dell, HP, etc) for a driver.

I've got the same graphics card as you splinter, whether thats anything to do with it or just a coincidence I don't know

I also have Nvidia 5200 and the movie problem was fixed by dropping the anti-aliasing setting. I would recommend that first.

You may also want to try turning down your anti-aliasing in the Options screen.
