Hyper Aggressive Arceans?

Hello all!

Wanted to find out if anyone else was having issues with the Arceans being a bit too "testy." Have played 3 times now and I'm wondering if there's a glitch with this particular race, b/c they've reacted unfavorably to me from the get-go every time, and have gone to war with me everytime as well...case in point, my last game-went balls-out for a tech advantage/better than average diplo skills...left all other races in the dust, actively traded techs with everyone (while using the diplo bonuses to trade for better techs) and everyone was happy, happy! I finally ran into the Arceans (far edge of map) and everything went south...like, ecounter them with highly unfavorable comments, less than five turns later, they send me a message "give us a gazillion credits or else," then war 2 turns later.

I know you're supposed to not get along at some point but aren't the Drengin's supposed to play the "heavy?" Ultimate irony is they've bothered me much less than the Arceans, and it'd be a shame to have to disable them b/c they never play nice...

Are you building military too?

I am at work right now but as I recall the Arceans are a militaristic race so they will have large military. The larger the proportion of their military to your military is, the more likely they will attack you.

It makes sense from a gameplay stance too. Why would the other players let you completely outclass them in tech? If you have a small military, a race with a large military is perfectly positioned to take you down a notch.

Read up on the race history. The Arceans aren't that different from the Drengin. Just a little bit less of a mean streak.

On the other side, the Arceans are more neutral-sided so they'll never mind your ethical alignment
Just trade with them some - they're an easy race to ally with and usually quite powerful too.

There are inbuilt relations depending on race. As a neutral race , you are less likely to experience problems. Also, they are fairly miltaristic, like the altarians and drengin. If you have a weak military, they frown on you, if you have a weak military and they don't like you because of race or alignment, they will often attack.

The Archeans are generally pretty nice to me actually. Played three games. The ones that I hate are the Altarians, those guys suck. Need to play more games to be sure it's not just chance though. I generally have a neutral alignment, strong economy, and smallish military.

I agree 100%, the one that bothers me the most are Altarians. They always want to go on a "rightgeous crusade" on the weakest evil civ around.

Or they like to gang up on me, with the other good civs.. arg. I just loved it when the Torian surrendered to the Drengin, at the last game. Now, instead of being neighbour of only me and the Torian, they were sorrounded by my and my closest ally
