Galactic Civilization 3 / Expansion

What do you want the next one to be

The title saids it all, i know galciv2 just hit the shelfs but the sooner we start talking about the next one, the sooner we can see (hope) stardock can take our inputs/improvements of the game and follow up with an expansion or 3rd installment. Trust me, why wouldnt you, especially when sales are high. Time to keep the ball rolling.

So what do you want the next game to be

-Galciv 3? or expansion?

-I would very much like to see the following,

1. Better sound/music - not that it isnt great, but the more epic and grand the better. Also during battle would like to hear people screaming from the engineering department with critical status reports. Shields down to 5%, missle target locked on, mayday mayday we need reinforcements, winger 5 watch your 6, enemy on your tail... you get my drift ^^
----> also i want to see voice over when you click on a unit or when there is a news report or tech research done. A nice female voice in the back giving me war updates or economy status. Just adds to the over all realism and feel.

2. Ship design is great, but would like to see alot more templates and core ships for selection. (not everyone here is a gifted in ship building. Plus ability to edit core design. One idea we can get a ship design contest going and the top ships gets to appear in the next game.

3. Tech tree description/detail , it doesnt hurt but adding this would definately add more depth and polish to the already solid
game, plus anyone notice its kinda akward to view the tech tree?

4.multiplayer. Sure most of us doesnt care about it, but im sure the minority outthere would love this feature.

5.option to manage battles oppose to auto solve with combat viewer? or at least gives us the command to try and prioritize weapons and defense and let the battle show us the end results?

6.If the tech tree is near limitless, then so should our ships. im talking I want to design a mothership here a ship so grand I can dock cruisers, fighers, troopers. or planet size spacestation or moving fortresses like the deathstar (SW). Because space is all about ships and planets., once your there tech wise, that should be the next step

7.Finally, this is my personal desire. although its 3D, but on the star map, it still feels abit 2D especially how the stars in the back drop, and with the grid and all, its like im on a chess board here. it would be nice if stardock and make it such a way that I can feel the infinite deep space. perhaps we can have solar systems to solar systems, when we zoom in, we see planets orbiting around a sun, all in 3D but when we zoom out the the map, its all solar system connecting to each other via black holes and routes and some path you can hyper space some you cannot so you can start making hyperspace gate to guard intruder etc etc.

alright, I'll let the rest of you add to the table.

P.S i havent research all the techs yet. but can someone tell me if there is such thing as the intergalactic steller converter like the one in MoO2? where you can destory planets?

2 things (one I mentionned in another post, but no one seemed to answer)

1: I want a Mapbrush, like Blizzard made for Starcraft. You can not only paint a map and choosing starting positions, but you could also customize the building already built, the # of technology already researched, the ships already on the map, etc.. And creating "mission objective" would be a must. Let's do more than "star with a colony ship + a planet + a survey vessel and conquer the galaxy". You could create scenario inspired of pretty much ANY KIND of sci-fi story. GalCiv 2's great adaptibility is perfect for that.

2: In the ship design screen, it would be nice to be able to... sculpt the structures. Like, if I wanna do a saucer, could I strech it on the X axis in order to make it look like the Enterprise E's?

No sequels! Let's not saturate a great success. Let Stardock churn out some other ideas before they mess with adding a new number to GalCiv. They're already working hard at tweaking 2.

I like to think that Stardock is one of those little dudes who really made it on their own (just like Lil' Brudder! awwww... he's such a trooper! - btw, love the Strongbad logo, guys) without the suits getting in the way. Basically, the way I understand it, they were told that 4X is dead and they've slapped everyone in the face. The last thing I'd want them to do is to become another sequel farm.

Why are you talking about a sequel already? The game hasn't been out very long, and if you havn't noticed, the Stardock team are already pushing out patches to address even the smallest little niggles the users have with the game.

I don't see the need for a sequel for a long time for a game of this type, a good game doesn't need a sequel.

If they keep the same rate of improvement than they did from 1 to 2, I have NO objection on letting them 2 to 3.. then 3 to 4. But then, if they ever improve that far, the AI will takeover the (real) world to not loose anymore...

I never wanted to take anything away from galciv2, its a great game by all means, beside there on going support for bug and fixes is really one of a kind and I applaud them for it.

But this is a forum and there is never such thing as a bad question. Beside, the sooner we talk about it, the sooner and more feedback stardock can have to build the next great game 'who knows how long that will be' You never know, maybe some great ideas can be sought out here and stardock might even be able to add those to our existing game.

and look what happen to MoO3. They waited too long and it falls apart. but the civ series on the other hand kept it going, kept improving....

no one has any inputs? I did mention that you never know some additional feature might work themselves into the next update. So there shouldnt be anything wrong about sharing some ideas to improve the game better.

anyone?

Well, obviously we should be talking about the expansion, which after the stunning comercial success GalCiv 2 has, is surely coming along.

1.) Hotseat: The only multiplayer I really care about

2.) More ship hulls: I´d like to have more models available... more tinkering is good.

3.) Larger ships.... Dreadnoughts? Hah, I want Star Destroyers!

"Strategic" ground combat - Read, not "tactical". Choosing where to invade, what to invade, in what numbers, with support troops (A la moo3) with tactics that suit terrain (and don't suit) etc. Would be a great addition.

Galactic Civilizations2 expansion - return of the arnors

i would like an expansion about the arnors making a comeback to retake the galaxy

also how bought the discovery of other galaxys that would be really cool and accurate (there are 1000's of galaxys in one universe)

I agree that I would like to see some expansion on the ground combat. Something in line with how they did the space would be fine even but perhaps more general. I would like what I research to be represented on the screen. If I have super tanks, then show my tanks but not mecha if I dont have them yet.

Make me care about the land war as much as you made me care about the space war.

What I'd like is the ability to BUILD planets. It would have to be every difficult, requiring a sun with less than 5 planets already and dozens of ships to build up the planet (each ship requiring a large device that requires its own technology). Once the basic planet frame is built you'd have to pick if you wanted the planet to be a lush green world (takes long time to build, has medium total tile count but has morale and research boost) desert world (low total tile count, no bonuses, but quick to build and has more teraformable tiles later on) or modular (metal world where you have to use a planet forming ship per tile and a morale cut but you can build it up to a large tile count and a boost to production).

I'd love to start a gigantic map with many stars but few plants, and its up to the AI and Players to expand to the stars.

how bough race only tech and wepons like only the derengian have a doom wepon or only the humans have a cloak

in the expansion i would eather like the thalan say there reson why there being here (kind of like altraian phrosey) and try to stop it or the arnors come back eather one.

I would love a cloak. I wish that was an option now. Definitely would want a 3d map.

I have always had a couple of ideas that I think could be useful...

+ Multi-Player setup through online or local network

+ Optional Pre-warp beginning

     - All minor races start as Pre-warp

+ Various Races could use different kinds of planet Atmosphere types AKA 'poisonous, radioactive, etc'

+ optional preset order for "planet automate" so when concouring an immense

universe or multiple universes all those individual planets wont tie your time up.

+ Super Technology both race specific and tech or research specific

     - Super Technologies some attainable by race or research ascension

           = Some of the technologies that I would like to see would be;

Cloaking                               = Invisible to sensors unless attacking or in direct sight

Black Hole Euruptor              = Creates mini-anomolies that disapear over a couple rounds and deal a set damage

Death Ray                     = Multiplies land combat and adds to space combat

Invulnerability fields        = Increases defense of all 'laser, missle, mass' to all planets, space stations,

                                               ships, etc.

Nano integration            = Nano-technology is integrated into the population adding to production,

                                               repair, defense, economy, etc

Worm Hole Propulsion      = Near instant travel decreases the effects of piracy and decreases the

effects of space stations, trade w/out ships

Genetic sequencing         = adds to population, economy, planet quality, moral, etc.

Star Base Propulsion        = allow star bases to move a short distance 1 or 2 spaces at a time.

Star Base Space /Air Superiority = allow military space stations to attack incoming enemy or passing enemy vessels.

Terraforming sciences      = Allow other planets to be terraformed into preferred  ecosystem, AKA 'Genesis'

+ some kind of shallow highth to the expansive universe something like 1/10 size of width or something.

+ A 'Gate Technology' and even Super Gate tech for moving quickly from one system to the other side of your territory.

Lots of Ideas, but Hope everyone knows I make changes to my article.

I would disagree with starting planet-side and trensencing into space.

That would not make the game Galactic Civilizations would it.

Besides, I think it has been tried with in Spore and it was found to be a bad idea.

I wouldn't mind a pre-hyperdrive stage (like the pre-warp option in MOO2) but I would want for it to be an option.

I think it's actually possible to do that as a GC2 mod, making constructor and colony modules unavailable until hyperdrive is researched (for example) but I think it would slow the early game down a lot.
