Is anyone else frustrated with the surrender option. Namely, the fact that the AI seems almost eager to surrender in many cases. For example, in one of my games the Drengin started way off in a corner with no one near them, but little space to colonize (they had 3 systems and 4 planets). Having a slight technical edge, i decided to try and take em out. I could only afford to send over a SMALL force of outdated ships (outdated for me that is, they were about the same tech level as the current drengin ships) and a few extra transports, and i was actually outnumbered by their forces. I barely have the range to get there, and need to take one of their border planets to refuel and hit their three remaining inner planets. Right after i take it and end my turn, they surrender to another race without even firing a single shot against me. They could have easily fought me off, i gave myself a less than 50% chance of succeeding (i was really just trying to kill two birds with one stone by destabalizing them and getting rid of some old ships).
This has happened every time ive attacked someone this game. While i like how the other sides ability to give its remaining planets to another major race adds pressure to move quickly when attacking them and encourages good pre-war planning, it seems that races are willing to surrender unrealistically soon. There've been times when races have surrendered to another afteri had taken only half their planets (and obviously, these were outlying ones that were not nearly as produvtive as the ones i had yet to take) and destroyed a miniscule portion of their navy. While it does make the game more challenging, i think the fact that the AI seems eager to surrender makes no sense and makes the game much less fun to play.
