Pack sand dirt bag. The only one lazy around here is you for not reading the box or anything in these forums.

It's been in numerous reviews that there is no multiplayer but stardock or the galciv modder community could possibly make a multiplayer for it or an expansion pack later on. Even then the computer is usually pretty good and you can crank it up or tone it down to whatever you prefer.

Not to sound too snarky, but you WERE aware that this is a single-player game only, right? And if you think you've wasted your money, I'd suggest trying a game with opponents set to "Intelligent," so you can watch the AI hand your *ss to you on a platter.

Not everything needs to be a network game, you know. Especially when a game like this takes days to play through a single scenario.

Seriously, it's all you hear these days. Multiplayer and graphics.

When I try showing this game to some people, they first go "Pfft, graphics don't look half as good as Empire at War", then they ask if there's multiplayer, rant that a game without multiplayer is stupid, and go back to playing Amped 3 on Xbox 360 or some other no-brain game.

... hello?

Well, no need to be fanboys here anyway so here's my post proper;

I don't personally think that you wasted your money. This game is great, and I mean GREAT. Graphics aren't flashy but they do the job (and by all means, the engine supports million-polygon ship models, and it's totally modable. How long before we see "Battle effect enhancements" mods?). Multiplayer isn't there in the traditional sense. What there -is- is the Metaverse where you can upload your results to see how well you fare agaisnt other people and that's it for multiplayer for the time being.

Please note, the develloppers have stated from day one that this game wasn't -meant- to be multiplayer but that it -might- get it in an expansion if the demand was high enough.

With that said, if you deign multiplayer to be one of the pillar of a good game, then we can't argue with you and we certainly can't try an dictate your personnal preferences.

But as far as I'm concerned, you're missing out on a truly great game that will keep you entertained for months (if not years) to come.

For someone who is 39, you don't sound very mature. Also, if you want multiplyer so badly why don'y you get off your lazy ass and develop your own game that has it.

Yea I hate that too.

I remember the ole Atari days, I still have my 7800 in my basement. The graphics on that were crappy compared to todays games but I still find those old game to be fun or even be more fun than some of the stuff that comes out.

As for multiplayer, I find that is what can kill a game. When devs focus so much on multiplayer that they make a paper thin single player experience really stinks and ruins a game.

As for GalCiv II, multiplayer has been talked up and down too many times to count. I know the devs will be taking a survey later to so how many would buy a multiplayer expansion, and if high enough they would make it.

Also GalCiv II has multiplayer in the form of the MetaVerse. You can post your games and have the rated aginst your friends. Sorta like golf.

I can't believe that! Really, I can't! Gamers care first and foremost about gameplay. Graphics are just the presentation of it all. Good graphics with nice effects are great and appreciated but gameplay is what decides if a game will be bought or not. And even normal people surely sets gameplay before graphics. I just can't understand people that prioritize graphics so highly that they'll rather play EaW instad of GalCiv II!

I'm sorry, but any multiplayer for this game (Besides, possibly, PBEM) would be HORRIBLE.
Have you ever tried to play a game like this at a lan? Have you? I got my friends to play MoO2 at a lan once, and... damn, most of the time you are either sitting there, waiting for someone to end their turn and yelling at them to speed it up, or doing something important while everyone yells at you to speed up so they can press turn

A lack of multiplayer actually adds to the game, because with it, I'd just have to play one game, probably against supreme ruler over here, and never do it again, probably ruining the game for me. lol

I guess you didn't read any of the reviews or the sticky threads explaining why there is no multi-player. You should read GameSpot's review Link to see why you didn't waste your money; it was awarded Editor's Choice for good reason!

There are lots of multi-player games with a stupid A.I. Thank use Stardock for making a GREAT single player game for those of us that don't have the time to play multi-player games (I have a wife and two little daughters) and need a strong A.I.! Well since you bought the game you might as well try and maybe you will agree that a game with no multi-player can still be GREAT.

You can also compete in the Metaverse against others players. Since GalCiv2 is turning into a commerce hit and there is strong demand for multi-player then Stardock may add an expansion pack to support it in the future.

Really? Hand it to me on a platter? You must not be that good because that hasn't happened to me. I played with all races on the largest galaxy. Granted the game lasted awhile and there was some intense battles, but the AI doesn't protect troop transports very well. Once I get a planet, I very rarely lose it and I slowly wear the AI down.

Maybe you should. I still have the original box and there is no place on it that it said it was a only a single player.

My fault there, I didn't review any reviews. I was just browsing the game store looknig for a good space game. With practically every game having a multiplayer option and the box didn't mention it being a single player only I thought I'd give it a try.

No I was not aware. That's why I asked the question.

I like your response. Intelligent and non-hostile. I commend you on your civility.

The game is good as single player games go, but it is missing that dynamic of a human player. They (and when I say they, I don't mean just this game) can't make an AI good enough without giving it some type of handicapp or cheats. For example, I've been at war with YOR for some time. They keep make better and better missle ships and I just keep making better point defense. They also make point defense, but when I switch to mass drivers they didn't switch their defenses. They had the advantage, but if you are patient you can simply wear down any computer player. A human player would adapt more quickly and is more unpredictable.

Without multiplayer, you are missing out of an aspect of what the game could be.

I guess they should have put SINGLE PLAYER ONLY in big bold letters somewhere on the box, but I think single player is implied unless stated otherwise.

The lack of any mention of multiplayer options or requirements is the tipoff.

Most games that have a multiplayer option state it on the box in the system requirements section.

Make it similar to Lords3 where there is a stategic map with things always in motion. When a battle appears you select the battle and command the troops.

Nope, my fault on that one. It should of been on the box though. With most games being multiplayers, they should of clearly stated it was a single player game on the box itself.

Can't Galactic Civilations II be played on a Lan?

If you had ended your post here, I'm sure you would have received a series of more civil answers to your question. This would be my answer to you: No, it can not. This game is not suited to multiplayer, for a number of reasons. I will direct you to a thread that discusses these in more detail. The main focus of GalCiv is to create an AI that can 'hold it's own' with a human player, without all of the bad behavior that invariably ensues with PvP apps. I will also direct you to a post written by the lead dev in that regard. This is a great game, and an even greater community of gamers, so please don't be discouraged, and keep playing. It only gets better. First link; https://forums.galciv2.com/?forumid=162&aid=98074#1085445 Second Link: https://www.galciv2.com/Journals.aspx?AID=138274
