Doom Ray?

I've researched my way up to Doom Ray, however, it doesn't appear in the Beam Weapon's list when constructing a new ship. I started my game pre-most recent patch and researched Doom Ray after the patch, so I'm wondering if that has caused the problem. Anyone else experienced this?

I just loaded up a game with the doom ray, and I seam to still have it, though the thumbnail seams to be missing. Can you check and see if this is the case for you as well.

The Doom Ray has never had a thumbnail, and the model it uses has always been the exact same one that the "Plasma III" uses. The code however references a Doom Ray model, which I'm guessing y'all forgot to include and the game is defaulting to the Plasma III.

Not sure what you mean by Thumbnail, but there is no option for Doom Ray in my Shipyard weapons options under Beam weapons. I've definatly researched it though. Highest I have is Disruptors III for 8 damage. Looking at a table on the internet I found, Doom Ray does 22 damage!!

Aren't you only supposed to research certain of the expensive/high damage weapons if you're evil? Could it be that you're not evil, and researched a tech that you weren't supposed to be aloud to research, hence you can't see it? (Grabbing for straws, maybe)

I just can't help but be reminded of Hyperdrive when I read this thread... building a massive Doom Ray but due to a clerical oversight not actually being able to USE it in any of your ships.

I too just researched and outfitted my ship with the Doom Ray. Needless to say, I was sorely disappointed in it's graphic (it's using the Plasma 3 model). The disruptor and phasor models were gratifying. Somebody slipped up here. We need a patch here.

My doom ray does have the Plasma 3 model, but what it fires is good old Dread Lord style purple spikey energy death. Anyone checked the code to see if the Doom Ray is merely miswritten, so the image doesn't load?

As far as I can tell from poking around the models folder, the S0_DoomRay.X file references TextureFilename {
"s0_Plasma.png" so it seems to just load the plasma texture by design. Ugh....surely this is something that will be changed in a patch. If you look in the thumbnails folder, you'll also notice that there is only a black place holder file for the Doom Ray instead of an actual pic.

Although the doom ray and plasma III weapons look the same on your ship, they do fire different animations when using them.

Blacksaber, try moving the black place-holder thumbnail out of the /thumbnails folder, and see if that helps.

I renamed the file extension to .OLDpng and now there's a thumbnail, but it's of a plasma 3 weapon-- just like the graphics model that shows up on the actual ship when placing the Doom Ray.

It's not a big deal, but seeing as how it was the end all be all of the beam weapons we could research (and owing to the fact that the disruptors and phasors just got progressively cooler looking) it was a big let down to see a graphic of a tech that's 13 levels behind the Doom Ray. At least, as you said, it does fire the correct beam graphics.

I want a real Doom Ray. Check out the Armchair General review: http://www.armchairgeneral.com/articles.php?p=2507&page=1 That's what I'm talking about! I want a ray that completely obliterates an enemy planet. I had forgotten that option in the first GalCiv. Why did that go away?
