STICKY: The Glitch Report

STICKY: The Glitch Report

Stuff we were too blind to see

This thread is for people who have found some bug, glitch, typo, oversight, you name it.  If you are running into a serious in-game problem (i.e. one that prevents you from playing) see the other sticky on IN-GAME problems.

Here's how to report something we screwed up on:

1) What the bug/glitch is.

2) How to reproduce it.

Note: Glitches are things that are definitely glitches.  This is NOT a wish list thread or a place to tell us how you think we should have implemented some feature differently.

Thanks!

For example, a few consisted of using the Survey ship to find out the location of the planet that needed to be conquered; restarting the scenario, and then building either a Troop or Colony ship depending on the mission and flying it straight to that planet's location to claim victory within 10 minutes of play.

Come on. Many scenarios will be easy if you cheat by restarting.

QUOTE: " When I upgrade a ship it does not have the old bits and bobs on it.

It has the extras - wings, lights etc.

But no engines, guns, sensors etc.

This happens every time I upgrade an existing ship design. "

I get this too worked fine before the update.

I have posted this before in the bug forum but I will add it here, I didn't get a response there.

Others have noted this problem as well.

At random there seems to be a problem with the fleet creation system. With a logistics value of 16 I sould be able to combine my 3 own built large hull ships with no problem. The vast majority of times that does happen. However every now and again a ship is produced that will not be able to join a fleet in any combination of other ships. When this happens I can select all 3 ships and click on the create fleet button to find that two become selected and form a fleet but the third one stays seperate.

I do have a saved game that reflects the issue if you should want it.

My game is patched to the latest possible.

Recently, I tried to conquer a minor race (The Andians I believe) and I went to attack their defending ship on the planet, and instead of attaking, I went straight to a planetary invasion. (I had a transport in my attack fleet to escort him.) Beyond the fact that I completely got around the defenses without even a fight, I never got to choose what kind of planetary invasion tactic I was going to use. It just set me up in a traditional invasion against the Andians population. I lost, so I can’t tell you what would happen if you managed to take their planet while the enemy ship was still in orbit though.

I'm having the same problem with single ships refusing to fleet up, but in my case the problem remains after either a new save or a reboot. Again, there's no logistics reason for this. So far the problem is affecting only medium hull ships, but I haven't gotten to large hulls yet.

I'm getting random CTD's on my system, I can't seem to find what causes it - it mainly happens around the starship design page but not always. All I get is a 'Gal Civ needs to close - tell microsoft about this problem' page there is no real indication why - also time does not seem to be a factor either.

System Spec;
Gal Civ 2 ver 1.0x Europe
Windows XP (latest version)
Intel Pentium Dual Core 3.6Ghz Processor
Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX (84.82 international driver)
2gb System Ram
Xear 3d On-board Sound (latest version)

Ok - I've found that this has got to do with the starship designer, the crashes only seem to happen when you have designed a new ship, entered a new class name and written a discription, the hard part is this does not always seem to happen!!

Also found that the non - earth like planets revert to a brown 'mars like' texture after a save and re-load - (only after a crash I've noticed!)

This will often happen when the computer overheats. (Since you have a GF7800 GTX, this looks likely - it gets hot!)Make sure that you update to the 1.0X1 version, and also make sure that the "limit frame rate" option is checked in video options. I had this problem too, it happens with newer video cards, because they run at ungodly frame rates (like 300FPS or so).

I didn't see this mentioned yet, but I built the Eye of the Universe the other night and I found I had to click on each ship/base/etc to get the sensor range to show for that object. Could have something to do with the game being started before the patch to 1.0X, and this being built after.

This is a bug I found, but I have no clue how to reproduce it.

So my civilization is cranking along at the bottom of the power ranking (mainly because I haven't really developed any significant military, preferring to work on everything else first, I'm playing with AI's at sub-normal since I'm fairly new to the game and at least at that level the AI's aren't exploiting my weak military. I have massive amounts of research compared to all of them, though. Now, I've got one general planet (my home planet), a research planet, an industrial planet, and an economic planet, and I expanded to the PQ 4 for a little extra research. At some point, I notice that I'm suddenly losing large amounts of money. I figure, no big deal, since my economic planet should be cranking out massive taxes by now and should have built a farm by now. Yet, I still am losing massive amounts of money. Odd. So I check out the planet and discover that it is taking 50 turns to upgrade my banks and markets. I haven't even built the farm yet. Now my settings have social output at 0, but I have this planet concentrating on social output to make up for the civilization wide 0 output. I have 2 factories at this point plus the colony which should be more than enough social output.

Nope. My social output is a big whopping 2. Yep 2. In spite of having 3 improvements (including conlony) that have an industry rating of 12, I'm kicking out 2 social, 0 research, and 0 military when I concentrate on social. Not concentrating on social gives me 1 miliatry, 0 social (since the civilization has social of 0), and 1 research. So on a whim, I remove everything from the queue and buy another factory. My social output next turn is still 2. Apparently my lovely planet has decided to give up the ghost.

Am I missing something in the mechanics of the game, or do I have a bug?

Something I am sure is a bug, is occasionally when I create a ship and I click on the icon on the right side to take me to the starport planet, the game immediately switches to the planet and then starts scrolling right. I can force it to scroll back left, but as soon as I let the mouse go, the game scrolls again. The only way to stop it is to bring up one of the other screens. I can't even double-click a planet to stop it.

Two more things.

This planet was also under the effects of fully modularized economic starbase.

I'm playing a custom race.

(And I just now noticed the edit button, so I could have edited my post up above with this info instead of posting this. Oops.)

If you have a high enough diplomacy skill you can actually buy the computers money. You can ask for 10,000 from the computer in exchange for 3000. You can continue to do this until you've absorbied their entire stock pile of money for free.

This was done on Normal difficulty.

Hi!
Game ver. 1.0x.1, glitch:
- Playing as Yor I have in planet details screen of conquered planets 3 different texts, separated by # describing plant was conquered.
- Civilization manager, timeline tab, diplomacy button: no lines displayed, just one short line at the very bottom of the frame. Not Yor-dependent, haven't seen it also as Human.

Two things:

1- Whenever you get 1000 billion citizens ie, a trillion, the game no longer counts it correctly and displays your population as 0.10001032442T

2- Double clicking, tripple clicking, etc does not always bring up the individual screen for a ship/fleet.

After Game Problem

When playing on my laptop (which plays fine btw, if I turn off anti-alias), Presario 2800 with ati7500, I find that I have to reboot the laptop or it will hang when it tries to go to sleep. It even ran hot while stuck in this mode for hours when I hit "Hybernate" soon after playing.

I can't get drivers that are any newer, but the DirectX is up to date.

I have a concern about the latest version, 1.0X. Why is it that when you create a fleet, the logistic point needed seems to be 1 higher than they should? A tiny hull should start at 1 point and a small hull would get a 2 logistic point (Like it says in its description if you open the 'build ship' menu. And a medium would have 3, etc.

Is this a concern with the amount of ships that can be put into a fleet?
