This thread is for people who have found some bug, glitch, typo, oversight, you name it.  If you are running into a serious in-game problem (i.e. one that prevents you from playing) see the other sticky on IN-GAME problems. 

Here's how to report something we screwed up on:

1) What the bug/glitch is.

2) How to reproduce it.

Note: Glitches are things that are definitely glitches.  This is NOT a wish list thread or a place to tell us how you think we should have implemented some feature differently.

Metaverse: The Metaverse incorrectly discounts some victories as though the player "cheated" even when there was no cheating. I have e-mailed my savegame to support to prove this. The more I mention this on other forums the more I hear about it happening to other people as well, so it's not just me. Hope it's a simple fix. Thanks!

Bug 1 Mining Starbases and fleets will sometimes change owners when saving or loading a game. I'm playing a custom race in a Huge galaxy, and over the course of my game I've acquired numerous mining starbases built by the other nine races, as well as one fleet. One of the minor races also received a couple star bases and a fleet, and proceeded to fly into my territory and attack me, despite keeping a peaceful diplomatic status.

This has not happened to a starbase or fleet that I've built. Sometimes a starbase that I acquired through this bug will change ownership upon the next load or save, but only very rarely.

Bug 2 Sometimes the screen will start scrolling all the way to the right as if I'm holding down an arrow key or scrolling with the mouse, even though I'm not. When I reach the end of the map, it will zoom in to a ridiculous level (a small ship will become bigger than the screen), and the Tactical Zoom level will get changed.

Bug 3 When a ship or research item has 1 week left, it sometimes takes two or three turns for it to actually finish.

Running 1.0X

1) Icons for starbase mining modules do not display properly. When I checked, the files were 144x144 pixels, so I just got a big white square on the screen, obscuring the text. I replaced them with white squares of the appropriate sizes just so that I could read the information.

2) The "Continue Game" button on the main menu doesn't load my last saved game, it remains unlit and unselectable.

3) My Altarian allies ceded control to me: "We surrender all our assets to the [SurrenderTo]. May they serve you well."

4) The ship that the bottom of the main screen claims is selected is not always the ship that moves.

5) On the main map, single click a colony. When you click through the ships in orbit, and move from the top row to the bottom (or vice versa) the previous ship stays highlighted. One ship on each row will remain highlighted as you click through them.

6) Some of the buttons in the Space Combat Viewer do not display properly. The top left corner covers the entire button location.

7) Moved a fleet its full move. Moved a nearby ship to join the fleet. Was able to move the entire fleet the remainder of the joining ship's move.

8) Unable to create fleet containing "Lucky Ranger." Also was unable to make a fleet of multiple transports. An empty fleet appeared on the map that had to be disbanded, and a box with a zero appeared in the fleet creation box.

9) Since the update, when you upgrade a ship, you lose all modules except extras.

10) Cannot upgrade core ships.

11) Cannot construct a base unless the constructor is alone in its space. Would appreciate it "Construct" was an option on the Information screen for the ship.

12) I find it exceedingly difficult to upgrade ships. Can't be done in orbit or in a fleet or if any other ship is in the same square. Ideally, would like to be able to upgrade from the Info Screen for the ship and the Ship List.

My game crashes in ship design. Whenever i create a design that makes use of all space available on the ship, the game crashes when i go to save the design and name the ship. This only happens if i have used all space aka 47/47. If i leave some unused all si fine, but otherwise instant crash.

I also have a mouse freezing problem, and when I quit and go to the desktop it keeps the mouse froezen there as well, though I can still click on stuff and bring up menus while the cursor is not moving.

The "quick fix" solution to the problem was to drop hardware acceleration a notch back (the one that just disabled bitmaps and some minor things), which brings the mouse pointer back, and it works fine when I got back to play the game, though the mouse flickers on the screen.

I can't turn acceleration back up until I restart the machine again, so I may have to settle for it being turned off for a month or two since the machine is rock solid and I use it 24/7. It's an annoyance, but at least it's not a show stopper bug. I hope someone will take a look at it and see why it's happening.

dont know if its been mentioned but every time i minimise the game it crashes. and i mean literally every single time. Ive got 3.8ghz 2gig ram 256mb ati raedon x600

reproduce: put a large sensor ship in a square. move a small sensor range ship though the square

Zero G Sports Arena says it has a 55% bonus to moral, Virtual Reality centers only have a 40% moral bonus, even though VR centers are a more advanced tech. Doesn't make sense to research, and upgrade my Zero G arena to a VR center when a VR center gives me a smaller bonus.

I'm playing the latest version of the game, and I noticed this during the campaign. I'm not sure if it's isolated to the campaign or if it's a persistant error.

P.S. I posted this on another thread, so my apologies if you've seen it before.

This has happened in a few different color versions. After some play time (up to an hour) the game will do this. I can save, quit, restart, and it's all good. latest drivers installed.

When I upgrade a ship it does not have the old bits and bobs on it.

It has the extras - wings, lights etc.

But no engines, guns, sensors etc.

This happens every time I upgrade an existing ship design.

bug/glitch: Just got the game; went to create a custom race for the 1st time (after downloading 1.0 patch; no mods or anything uploaded or installed- no idea if this is relavent); Logistics +4% remained in abilities field even after resetting all abilities and repicking 10 points worth of abilities. I saved the species and then reloaded them. Logistics now +8% in abilities field; I went back into the ability select screen my points were at -2. I reset and reselected my 10 points worth of abilities; logistics remained at +8%. I saved and reloaded species- Logistics now at +12% . . .

Just thought I'd report this; not sure if it has already been addressed (if so: forgivaness please).

Regarding race bonuses, the units for trade routes is in % and not # - why?
Also the number of options value for the loyalty ability does not match its listed value.

I haven't seen this bug reported here yet and it doesn't seem to have been acknowledged by Stardock either so here goes. The bug is best described in the thread:

The bug appears to manifest when you obsolete a ship that you just purchased, such as in the case where you bought a ship, upgraded it and obsoleted the old version before the end of a turn. Thereafter, the starport for that planet always indicates 0 turns to ship completion but the ship is never completed. The Buy button cannot be clicked and the progress meter bar is always at full.

Furthermore, and here's the kicker, you can never build a ship at that planet EVER AGAIN for the rest of the game! In my current game some of my best shipyard worlds have become next to useless and have been forced to retool, resulting in lost bcs, lost turns, loss of strategic initiative and untold frustration.

Switching to a different ship doesn't fix it. Destroying and rebuilding the starport doesn't fix it. Obsoleting the currently queued ship doesn't fix it. AAAARRGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

if you trade "trade goods" nothing seems to happen, it doesn't show up in the trade good list, i can't build the according building, do i at least get the bonus from it, i'm not sure


Trade goods don't have buildings... You just get the bonuses that they give. You will not be able to trade it to someone else, since you do not have the rights to them.

Bug/Glitch: quick save doesn't always properly show up in load/save list.

Not entirely certain how to reproduce it so I'll just describe my observation.

I was playing a metaverse game and hit Ctrl-S to quick save. Later I decided to revert back to the quick save, but could find only two quick save entries in the load/save list. One was for the campaign and the other showed a date two weeks ago.

I alt-tabbed and copy/pasted the metaverse quick save file (resulting in Copy of Quicksave). Returning to the game I then saw Copy of Quicksave in the list.

Later on I decided to load the two week old quick save just to see what would happen. It loaded the metaverse quick save.


Speculation - load/save constructs the list from all three folders (campaign, normal, metaverse), flags the campaign games and then presents a unique list of file names/flags. In the case of duplicate file names with no flags, the "normal" game file date show up in the list. No idea why loading a "normal" quick save file would load the "metaverse" quick save instead though. If this is the case, perhaps saves just need to be flagged metaverse.

I have had the problem with trillions of residents on a captured planet. It only occurred on the turn of capture, and like the other user, I had very few troops left at the end of the battle for the planet. That same turn, but after the capture, I landed 3,000 more troops. However, the very next turn, total population was reduced to a few hundred thousand. I have a screenshot of the initial results showing trillions of people and the commensurate income value of the planet.

When being addressed by the Drath, the label [playername] is used instead of Terran Alliance. It is only with the Drath that I have seen this happen, such as, "Greetings to the great [playername] and its leader", or whatever. I'm paraphrasing.

Game ver. 1.0x.1, 3 glitches:
1) I've built Galactic Privater, but it does not prevent my trade ships being attacked and destroyed.
2) Iconians just built a Starbase in the "square" next to my SB.
3) zoom with "+" and "-" on numeerc keyboard works with minimap. Main map doesn't follow. "+" and "-" on keyboard do zoom main map, but minimap doesn't change. By design or glitch?

Displayed build/research times are not 100% accurate, probably due to rounding discrepancies. This is most frustrating when "1 turn" does not complete and leaves a tiny sliver for the next turn.

To repeat, adjust the sliders so that build time just barely transitions from "2 turns" to "1 turn". Click next turn. Odds are that the project will not complete. Further example: make the slider adjustment in the planet view. Then, check the planet summary window. The times reported in these two places may be different.

I know this is not a bug but it is VERY I repeat VERY ANNOYING!!!

On the starship creator when I updated to version 1.1 it removes all components except the eye candy.

Why did the creators do this?

I think this should be an optional attribute to the ship creator because it is
VERY annoying to get a new weapon and have to remember every old components
such as life support or sheilds and where they went!!!!!!!!!

Hurray for bugs! I've had the Lucky Ranger bug before - the things are awesome, but no matter what weapons and defenses they have listed, they always have 25 gun/17 armor. For me, anyway.

Three other small issues: I've twice had Minor Races get confused regarding where their own territory is. The Snathi have been accosting me for building up transports and fleets near their worlds when I'm not even sure where the Snathi homeworld is. Most of the time my transports were in an unoccupied system or edging up on a Drengin world. In another game, the Akilians started to get grouchy after I built an influence starbase in the Carinoids system. They kept going on about putting starbases near "their" worlds, which were actually in another sector.

Bug 2, after conquering the Drengin worlds, I now have two of each kind of Capitol (Economic, Manufacturing, etc). It doesn't seem to be causing any glitches or anything, but I'm not sure that it's right for me to acquire additional capitols.

Bug 3: Playing as the Drath, I start the game aligned with Good. As the game progressed, I found myself answering every moral choice with the neutral option, as that seemed most natural. However, no corresponding shift toward Neutrality manifested in my game alignment. The slider on the "Good/Evil" bar never moved at all and after researching Xeno Ethics "Good" was the only financially reasonable decision. It seems to me, though, that my civilization should have shown at least some trend toward neutrality, based upon the decisions I had been making up to that point.

Now I'm going to go play until 3 am and pass out.

1) In ship constructor, sometimes don't get space back after removing an object. Also, after removing an object the icon still remains in the inventory bar (if you use the arrows to push the item off of the screen, you can get rid of it).

2) Influence zones vanish or are only partially shown at certain zoom levels of minimap.

3) Thalan: "Our disgust of [YourEmpireName]."

4) A fleet that is reduced to one ship after a combat regains its full movement.

5) Sent a freighter to another system. Got the rocks and tomatoes "we're at war" message, when we were not. Next turn was able to establish the route.

6? Not sure if this is due to espionage, but I have LOS to the area surrounding former colonies.

The computer builds starbases two parsecs away instead of three. Just annoying really, when I like to surround my home planet with a series of starbases...
