STICKY: The Glitch Report

STICKY: The Glitch Report

Stuff we were too blind to see

This thread is for people who have found some bug, glitch, typo, oversight, you name it.  If you are running into a serious in-game problem (i.e. one that prevents you from playing) see the other sticky on IN-GAME problems.

Here's how to report something we screwed up on:

1) What the bug/glitch is.

2) How to reproduce it.

Note: Glitches are things that are definitely glitches.  This is NOT a wish list thread or a place to tell us how you think we should have implemented some feature differently.

Thanks!

Kind of silly, but if you try to load a zero byte savegame, the program will crash. (It crashed durring save, and I was hoping that it would be good), only later did I notice that the save was zero bytes.

This is with 1.0x

I would LIKE to enjoy this game, but after the opening cinematic, the game goes to the main game screen and my mouse can't click on ANY of the buttons! It'll click on the opening cinematic to end it, but once on the main game screen, the only place the mouse works is to minimize or close the window the game starts in!

Is there some way to start the game NOT in a window? Maybe that will help.

After the latest patch, the game seems to innacurately estimate the time it takes to complete improvements.

To see this, start a new game with the default humans, then switch spending and social to 100%. Try to build a series of factories. Alternately, buy the first one outright. Either way, it will say that it will take one week to complete, but in reality will take two.

There are still some fleet movement bugs left in the gam (after 1.0X.1)

* I attacked an enemy with a fleet and all my ships except one died. The surviving ship got back his full movement.

* If a fleet has 0 movement and you add a ship with movement, the fleet sometimes gains some movement.

Apologies if these have been mentioned before.

Here is what I have found so far:

The default Tiny Terran Hull has a couple of misaligned hardpoints. At least one is impossible to fix. I am sure there are some others on different hulls, but this one shows up pretty early. An official way of allowing more control over how hardpoints are realligned would solve the issue.

When calculating ship strength mining starbases often are pronounced the strongest. While mostly harmless I did run into an instance where the Altarians gifted me their most powerful ship to fight off the Drengin...this turned out to be a mining starbase...not sure that is what they had in mind. This probably could be fixed by disqualifying starbases in that calculation.

In the Yor’s diplomatic viewscreen a white screen flashes every 10 seconds. Probably just a missing frame in the video.

Mentioned in a separate post but there seems to be some music files in the event music folder that are not utilized. I know for sure that the SPY.mp3 doesn’t come up during an espionage announcement.

Some effects seem to be misaligned in the battle viewer. The engine contrails seem to come from the center of the ship instead of the back and I have seen Mass Drivers ‘hit’ a ship well in front of it.

Had an instance where a race with which I had 3 trade routes surrendered to a race with which I was at war. Oddly the trade routes staid until they were individually destroyed by raiders.

Had a glitch pop up twice where ships that I launched from orbit would not fleet up even though the logistics was there. It wouldn’t give me an error message or anything it just didn’t take effect.

I keep seeing starbases that have not been upgraded strewn about the map. This is probably to extend the range of a race’s ships, but it would seem designing ships with more range would be more efficient. I could be wrong.

Various typos are strewn about the game. Nothing earth shattering, but worth mentioning. Especially the ones that refer to a bonus or some rule that doesn’t actually exist as this can be confusing.

Of course there is the issue with ships getting a double move if you fleet up with ships that have different movement points available. This is better than a fleet losing a turn though.

It goes without saying that the only reason I mention any of this is to make the game that much better. Even a great game can never have too much polish.

Hi,
Unable to get game UI to respond (using mouse) after changing resolution/changing to window mode.
(don't want to do it again as i had to re-download to fix it - and the servers are sooo slooow).

Firstly congrats on a great update - builds nicely on a good base (GC1) - and looks very nice!.
Also, good to se a game that runs OK in the Win64 environment!

OK, game was installed, (using SD so is latest patch level.) - Played fine in lots of maps at Res up to 1280 x 1024.

No problems at all - then after reading a post (looking to fix the dual cpu probs) I changed the setup to window (from full screen_ and, to test how it would look, changed the res to 1920 x 1200 (I have a new (ish) DELL 24" LCD)

Restarted the game - and at the main screen (new Game etc) - any where I clicked, got no response. I could only exit by hitting ALT/F4 or task mangler and killing process.

No biggie, just one of those things you would not have really thought to test in QA - I guess the number of players who have a screen running at 1920 x 1200, has to be reaaallly small

System is an AMD 4800 dual core, 2Gb RAM, WinXP pro 64 (legal and patched to current) and a nVidia 7800GT/256Mb VGA with latest driver (for 64 bit setup).

cheers
Rob

Sometime into the game, for no reason i can find (ive read the manual and any peice of ingame literature i can find regarding construction and moral etc), Earth can no longer create ships.. when ever i select a ship to build it sits there for ever on "0 weeks"
Ive tried to work around this by deleting the space yard, saving and loading and building a new one and such but no luck.. am i missing something?

Moon Bug, when you load a saved game all the moons are in sync with each other. I thought this was just a poorly thought out part of the game, but I started a new game and noticed none of the moons were in sync, I saved it and reloaded it and all the moons are now in sync.

Don't know if this has come up or whatever but I cant read through all these posts...

When I try to attack an enemy fleet with one of my own, the battle screen doesn't come up and my fleet, which is supposed to be attacking, just sits there and does nothing.

The "menu" becomes unavailable as well and if I press "turn" it disappears and doesn't come back making the game essentially frozen even though I can use the mouse and move the screen and such.

I think it might be an issue with the # of ships in both fleets. Its my only experience or lack there of with a large fleet battle. Smaller battles never had an issue.

Happens everytime no matter how many times I try and reload at various points. I thought it could be a performance issue on my end but I have fairly expensive hardware and 2 gigs of RAM so if that's the case...

What's up?

Im in the shipyard and I want to Update a current shipdesign. I click it, and only the hull is there? Hardly an 'Update' - more 'Start again from scratch'. Please just reload the original shipdesign and then we can, say, remove an obsolete engine and replace it - job done.. Surely this is obvious for an Update feature?

Reserved characters in Windows are not properly handled when naming a saved game.

Example: You can name a save "..\test" and test.sav will be saved in "C:\Documents and Settings\[User]\My Documents\My Games\"

Another: A : in the name will cause the save to be 0bytes.

Illegal characters are: \ / : * ? " | < >

When designing a new design in the shipyard, I have to name it "new design" or it will tell me that I cannot modify a core ship design. I have tried every way imaginable to get around this but nothing works.

Game crashed after a couple hundred turns. No idea if or how I can reproduce it. One second I'm playing, the next I'm not. Disappointing. Sorry i can't provide more info. Will wait for the next patch before starting another game on the off chance the problem is fixed already.

Grouping Glitch:

I was able to reproduce this 2 of 3 times.

1) Have 4 troop carriers on one planet.
2) Launch a troop carrier, then another.
3) Group these two together, (Logistics 10 of 12) and send them on their way.
4) Launch a troop carrier, then another.
5) Attempt to group these next two carriers together fails. I select them both, hit the create fleet button, everything seems to be alright, but then when i go to move them, they only move one at a time and attack one at a time.

I kept running into this and went through the process 3 times to try to reproduce the problem, triggering the glitch 2 of 3 times.

1) The point at which population stops growing is not 30% approval as it states in the manual – it wasn’t until I found that my empire had been flat in size for a quarter that I realised that the colour of the approval percentage was indicating whether the pop was growing or not. At least I assume that’s what the colour indicates! Personally I would be happier if population and approval moved up and down more gradually rather than in ‘steps’ as at present so I didn’t have to ‘tweak’ it each turn to get to the right ‘break point’. (BTW I was playing with a custom race with 70% higher growth which might have made a difference?)

2) I can’t upgrade my flagship until I research medium hull size even when I have researched better engines (for example)

I'm probably duplicating efforts here but in I'll post some things I've noticed:

1. Enemy destroys my resource starbase and builds his own in its place. Enemy starbase now shows up in my list.

2. Some rally points still show up in my rally point list even after deleting them

3. Rally points on starbases can't be disbanded unless you park a ship there first (I think this is well known?)

4. Background music slider is set to 0. But when coming in and loading a game, the music starts playing until I go to the audio preferences and touch the slider.

Running version 1.0X.

System: P4 3.2Ghz, Geforce 6800GT, Soundblaster Xfi, 2 gigs DDR2 RAM. Running all the latest drivers and service packs.

Glitch:

I'm running into problems obsoleting ship designs when a ship of the same name exists in another save game file. Also, when I obsolete a ship of one name, and load up my other game with a ship of the same name, the ship "disappears" (loses all it's texture, doesn't show up on the overhead map)

Do you use the ship name as a seed for your "Ship ID?" If so, might I suggest using the created/upgraded time as well? Or perhaps the color scheme?

You have to name it something other then a pure class or that will happen. Like, don't call it "Corvette" Call it "Corellian Corevette".

Save game bug - tried to save a game named something like "Ready for war?" and clicked save, no complaints, no warnings. But game did NOT save. Quit the game thinking I'd saved, some back later and there go a bunch of weeks, conquests etc because the game was NOT in the list. I found the save game folder, it just isn't there.

I can understand if the save game name is the file name, but don't fail silently, please warn us that the game wasn't saved

Great game though, keep up the good work!

I sent 2 constructors to one resource (selected them both and sent them to the resource). When they arrived, instead of creating one starbase and one module, they created 2 starbases (true, it asked me if I want to create the second starbase, but I clicked yes since I didnt know it was THAT one...)

2 new issues, they may be already reported but this list is getting too long...

Looked at my "Victory" screen and under influence it said 0% and that you can't win while at war with the Drengin. Funny thing was I don't remember being at war with them. So I looked on my treaties screen it didn't show war, then looked on my relations screen and it said "Hostile" but not "at war". About 10 turns later I got a call from Lord Whatshisface asking for peace.

As a Republic, I attacked another race's planet with a fleet containing 2 ships and a transport. It gave me the pop-up asking if I was sure I wanted to go to war, then the vote screen and the war was voted for. When I clicked done the game seemed to freeze --- I could click around and see things and could move, but I couldn't attack, couldn't upgrade starports. The Finish button, once pushed, dissapeared. I reloaded the game and it did the same thing the next 2 times. What did work was starting the war with a different fleet. Not sure if it was the fact the original had a transport in it, or that I was attacking the home world. BTW, is there a "Declare War" button somewhere?

Version 1.0X

Planet Quality reset after loading a game - Same problem as #49 by Citizen blueman22, bug one. When you use soil enhancement etc. to improve your planets quality, the number goes up. For example, a level 10 planet goes up by one number to 11. When you save this game and reload it, the planet is displaying that it is back down to a PQ of 10. But it still shows 11 useable tiles.

Core Ships not showing up - Same problem as #28 by Citizen HEEGZ. After researching the prerequisite techs for the core ships, some ships do not show up. The Mass Driver and Missile based core ships are especially bad about this. This problem shows up while playing "Normal" rules games where the tech needs to be researched, but all core ships show up while playing "Battle of Gods" rules.

Duplicate names in ship build list - Playing "Battle of Gods", several core ships have duplicate names. For example "Ranger" is in there twice with the same weapon loadout, while "Sledge Hammer" is in there twice with a different weapon loadout.

"Lucky Ranger" weapon problem - The Lucky Ranger shows that it only has Missiles and Missile defense on the main screen. But if you click its "more information" button, the display shows a varied weapon loadout. And in combat, the graphics and sound effects show beam weapons and mass drivers as well as missiles. Could be related to the duplicate names in ship build list.

Summary Page doesn't show the right values - Same problem as #49 by Citizen blueman22, bug four. Summary Page doesn't show the right values. If you have an enhanced tile on your planet, for example a +300% food production one, and you place a xeno farming on it, nothing changes on the summary page. Your summary page only shows the normal +4mt and not a +12mt (300%). Same goes for manufacturing, research and the influence type as well.

Galactic Guide Book does not seem to work - After building the Galactic Guide Book, neither the space requirements nor the cost of the survey module drop to 0, even after multiple turns or saving and reloading. The in game description leads me to think that the space requirement of the survey module should be eliminated.

I've been playing the game for a week or so now, and after a few days, I thought I'd try my hand at designing some ships for myself. I'm not the most creative person, so my designs aren't very good and I stole a lot of elements from the core designs - which aren't upgradeable, so I tried my best to reverse-engineer them from observation to my chagrin. So I had a handful of ship designs.

Then I realised that if a ship had tech on it that I had yet to acquire, I wouldn't be able to access my design! So, no biggie, I figure. I'd just remove all the high-tech parts off my ship design. Unfortunately, it seems that the game "remembers" the highest tech components you've EVER had on that hull, which carries over even if you strip all the components off and resave it. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but the tech requirements for my empty Colonizer hull include stuff like "Warp Engines" according to the .shipclass file. That made me quite unhappy, as I had to redesign all my hulls for repeated usage.

But I did so nevertheless, salvaging some designs I hadn't used. So now my plan was to keep the base hulls around and upgrade them with components whenever I actually wanted to build a ship. Now I didn't want to make Colonizer I, II, III, IV, V etc, etc, because, well really, when would I ever use all five versions at once? And even then, I would prefer to re-optimize my ships manually, based on the technologies I had on hand and the particular situation I was in, so in one game I could have more support units on my Colonizer and in another more engines, or have shields on my Raptor II or another Laser instead. I didn't want to make hundreds of versions of my Raptors, with lasers, missiles, mass drivers, shields, point defense, armor, and engines so I could best utilize whatever tech level I was at in that particular game.

This is all a long-winded way to explain why this bug matters, to me, anyways. So I have the Hull (Colonizer) design. Whenever I want to build a colony ship, I select it, hit Upgrade, add a Colony Module and whatever else I want, then I would hit Save, and name it "Colonizer." Always "Colonizer." If I got more tech, I'd create upgrade the old Colonizer into a new design, but I - and this may be important - would NOT upgrade the old versions of it that I may have had about.

What happened, in-game, was that after a while, I started crashing every time I tried to save a new Colonizer. I couldn't figure it out until I went to look at my ships directory, and there I saw: S0_UD_Colonizer0.shipcfg ... S0_UD_Colonizer10.shipcfg. I deleted those files, went back into the game, and everything worked again. It seems that after 10 versions of ships with the same name, at least doing it the way I described, the shipyard will crap out on you, because it can't create .shipcfg11, which isn't a bad idea, because you certainly wouldn't want .shipcfg9847588391000441.

But anyways. Those are the couple of bugs I've run into. I imagine the first one could be fixed by saving .shipclass files with the design's CURRENT level of tech, rather than it's max historical level. It's not as big an issue, I think, as the second issue though, which could be resolved in a couple of ways, depending on why the .shipcfg files are piling up. Is it because I didn't upgrade all my ships, so the game has to keep date on the older version about? Or do the files just accumulate anyways, in which case maybe they shouldn't, or old ones could be cleansed regularly?

I just had a glitch on what I believe is version 1.0X.1. I was playing a medium size map with all races (I was the Terrans). All sides were relatively equal. A battle between one of my military starbases and a small fleet of the Arceans was getting ready to load the battle viewer. As it was doing that, the minimap instantly colored the Altarians as having full influence of the entire map, something they weren't close to at all at the time. When the battle was over and it returned to normal view, the minimap corrected itself back to the way it was before. The problem, however, was that all races except my own surrendered to the Alterians. This was made weirder by the fact that the minimap never corrected to show they had all surrendered.

I'd be more than willing to provide any other information if you would like to try and recreate this little glitch.

I found an 100% way too crash Gal Civ 2. GalCiv 2 is a turned based game and as such I usually chat intermitanty on AIM with my friends. Normally the AIM window popping up or

Not sure if this belongs here, but after choosing to focus on Neutrality and reaserching the Neutrality Learning Centers, I see no effect. No new structure, project, or bonus is indicated, and there is no visible impact on my research rate.

Reproduce it by focusing on neutrality after the Ethical choice, and researching the tech.

Also have the above issue.

Also having the issue of Military Star base not providing bonuses to fighters in the first mission of the campain.

These issues happend on every version so far, I check everyday, and on both of my computers. If you need I can post the debug files for either or both. But both are modern and have latest drivers and 1GB ram.
