STICKY: The Glitch Report

STICKY: The Glitch Report

Stuff we were too blind to see

This thread is for people who have found some bug, glitch, typo, oversight, you name it.  If you are running into a serious in-game problem (i.e. one that prevents you from playing) see the other sticky on IN-GAME problems.

Here's how to report something we screwed up on:

1) What the bug/glitch is.

2) How to reproduce it.

Note: Glitches are things that are definitely glitches.  This is NOT a wish list thread or a place to tell us how you think we should have implemented some feature differently.

Thanks!

Some orange squares are not showing up on the planet screen. I can build habitat on the square, but the square is not orange or any other color, it looks just like an unihabitable square.

Hard Lock during first encounter with another race.

I found the Terrans the first race I encountered and silly me I clicked on the "next race" arrow underneath his picture when there was no next race to goto. The game locked up and I couldn't do anything but shut my system down. CTRL+ALT+DELETE didn't even work to clear the lock. The music continued to play but nothing else would function.

1 In 'Planet Details' screen for Earth, the 'Planet Description' reads "... Hyperdrive propulsion became a reality and a race for the stars began. /n ...

2 In Colony Management screen a square with 'Prairie' says "...sense of wellbeing and happiness, making it a perfect" and then it stops ! No scroll bar.

3 In the same screen 'Basic Factory' "...increases this colony's the social + military..."

Basically just typos and a missing scroll bar.

Some more typos...

In the Foreign Policy screen, Espionage Report - Level : Low

The paragraph about Torian Ships reads ... "Torian Confederation Flagship CURRENLTY has 16 OUR of 16 possible hit points and is currently heading towards".. ???

In various places there is no test for whether there should be an 'AN' instead of an 'A' before the next word.

Version 1.0D

In the Terran Alliance campaign, military starbases with ship support modules (attack or defense) do not actually provide ship support in some cases. In several of the scenarios, (the ones that the dreadlords appear and then the torian leader rescue) some military starbases do provide support and others do not. One clue is that the ones with flaws sometimes are rebuilt after being destroyed by dreadlord ships in the later scenario.

When I go to upgrade an existing design of mine with new engines/weapons/etc, I have noticed that even though I overwrite the previous design (with the same name), both designs still show up in the "build ship" screen and "upgrade" screen, even though they have the same name. The old design does not show up in the shipyard screen however - if it did, I'd just obsolete it and I doubt I'd have this problem.

The annoying thing about that is that when I go to build ship or upgrade, I then start getting 8 or 10 different ships of the same name showing up, even though all I want is the latest version.

At some times when I reload a game, when a fleet moves, it gains movement points up until the total of all movement scores of the ships involved (4 ships with 7 movement, the fleet will move up to 28 parsecs). This has mostly replaced the 0 parsec movement of my ships in my latest game.

Auto-explore and Auto-survey turning off when there is still unexplored area/anomalies.

As mentioned in other posts, if you move the economy sliders, the percentages don't always line up. ex. put military to zero from the base 33% setup. The sliders for planetary and research stay at the 1/3 mark, but now represent 50%. Moving the slider on either up to the 50% mark increases the % spent in that area, but once you get to the 50% mark, it resets to 50%.

I had a civ surrender to me, and the planets from that civ did not have the same scanner, resupply, and influence range as my original colonies.

When I reload games, sometimes colonies buildings get thrown off of the open development squares, sometimes granting additional building space. This also happens with planets gained from cultural seep and conquest.

Unable to enter into alliances with any other civ, regardless of demeanor, this may just be something I'm forgetting though.

If you have a rally point on the same parsec as a space station, you cannot select the rally point unless there is a ship in the same parsec.

If you re-route ships going to a rally point to another rally point, those ships are marked as 'to be handled' and will be in the cycle of ships that generally lack a destination.

The experience anomalies only give you experience, you need to win a space combat to gain levels, and then its basically one level per battle until you use up all of the stored exp. Unsure if this is as intended or not.

Sometimes when I launch a ship from a planet, it auto-selects the ship, other times it doesn't. I always launch ships by double-clicking the ship icon in the space port.

Minor races are seemingly unable to be absorbed culturally (ringed a world with maxed out culture star bases, and culture worlds).

At some points, the re-supply zone of ships is not getting updated properly (I think it was many turns after a load, but am unsure). I would get messages that the ship couldn't go to a point that was at least 4 parsecs inside its range.

Ship designer: If you select a part from the installed parts list and click remove, doing so again for a different part will revert the design to its original configuration (click on engine in list, click remove, click on scanner in list, click remove, both the engine and scanner are back on the ship this happens for any two parts).

Ship designer: If you select upgrade, then choose to clear the design, you do not get the option to upgrade all existing ships, even if the name is the same.

*edit* Battle Stations Mk IV is labeled as Battle Stations Mk III in the starbase upgrade screen, and can be purchased concurrently to the real Battle Stations Mk III

when i look at the research screen no what it says it is organised by the techs are all ways organised by time remaining but it always goes back to how it should be, reproduce by setting organisation to catagory and then researching a technology when you go back in it should have changed

Possible glitch - or maybe by design...

Saw a few threads on the forums about planets with Re-Education Centres actually being culturally flipped, so tried a few things in game and came up with the following:

I was culturally dominating the Arceans so they built a REC on their homeworld - the little red skull icon disappeared as expected and that planet was safe and wouldn't flip. After a couple of years, all their other planets had flipped and they surrendered Arcea (complete with REC) to the Terran alliance. Immediately, the red skull re-appeared and a few turns later Arcea flipped to me, still with the REC intact. So it looks like the effect of the REC does not transfer when a planet changes hands either by surrender or invasion - which sort of makes sense as it's a super-project with only one allowed per race, but confusing as it looks like a bug when people see a planet with a REC flip.

Talking of super-projects, what's super about the Secret Police Center? Why would anyone want to waste a building tile for something that gives a massive 20% morale bonus to that planet only - should it be an empire-wide bonus?

A couple of things: 1 small, 1 not-so-small:

1) When playing as a custom race, I have often been addressed by another race as "[Their short name]" or something along those lines. It looks like a function calling something that doesn't exist (i.e., when creating a custom race there is no place for entering a "short name" or anything like that).

To reproduce: play as a custom race and wait for another race to address you about almost anything. (I don't think this glitch occurs when you initiate conversation.)

2) Saved games are an absolute nightmare. This was a problem even with the original GalCiv and it remains a serious problem with this iteration. Here are just some of the problems I've encountered with save games (some of which I know others have encountered as well):

a) Playing as a "Lucky" race, I was blessed with a "Lucky Ranger." I saved the game one turn later, just in case. A couple of turns later, I accidentally (yeah, accidentally) attacked a minor race I didn't want to be at war with (they were trading with me). I reloaded the game and, what do you know, that "Lucky Ranger" was nowhere to be seen. Probably self-destructed because of my boneheaded maneuverings.

b) Almost every time I reload a game, the display of my planets' Planet Quality has apparently reverted back to pre-Soil Enhancement, pre-Habitat Improvement, pre-everything levels. I get planets with displayed qualities of 10 having 12 or more improvements on them.

c) Fleets or ships sometimes lose their movement for a turn or even two turns after loading a game. Research seems to take a turn to restart as well.

d) When loading a game, you are prompted to select a technology to research (or keep researching). At times, the technology offered is NOT the one you were working on when you saved the game. If you go with it, your previous research efforts are lost.

Note: out of curiosity, I kept track of four reloads (each at different points in two different games). One of the four reloads resulted in the "d" glitch. The other three were fine.

e) When loading a game, the robot in the initial screen offers the same speech which he used at the beginning of the game. How do I tell that guy that we are far beyond mere Hyperdrive? Maybe this isn't a glitch; it still should be fixed.

I could list a large number of typos. The Humans say something like "hear" when they mean "here" and so forth, but I'm usually too busy enjoying the game to note them all. Maybe later.

But please, please, please improve the problems with save games. I want my Lucky Ranger back!

Lots of bugs from a game I began in 1.0X, played some in the build you put up on a link and now is continuing in 1.0X.01:

1) I had the warfare tax UP law take effect. The next turn, even though I wasn't in war with anyone, I began paying 5bc/turn. I have previously conquered two minors and made war to a major that later surrendered to me. After that I attacked another major, took a couple of planets and then he surrendered to another. Now I'm at peace with everybody and paying 10bc/turn. The game seems to believe that I'm still fighting those two majors even though they are gone now.

2) I conquered a planet with an Omega Defense Center while I either already had one or had one in production, don't remember which. Now the one I built doesn't do anything, the ships in orbit get no extra hp. The other one works fine though.
Later I took a third but it doesn't work either. The only one that works is the first one I conquered.

3) I demolished an Orbital Fleet Manager on a planet and now I can't build it again.

4) All my fleets hitpoints are wrong, the number is much larger than the individual ships combined hp.
For example: I have three ships in a fleet. Their hp is 36/36, 39/36, 36/36. The fleets hp is 165/162.
I also have the repair-bug as you can see.

5) Max Value for a trade route is bugged in the trade window. It's always the same as Current Value. It increased and then decreases as the freighter is heading back home.

6) Yor stuttering diplomatic movie. It (5_trade00.bik) is also the only movie with sound among the diplomatic movies. If that has something to do with it.

I have a savegame with all of the above if you want it.

Lovin The Game BUT Little Hitch i hit on my laptop
I Keep crashing compleatly at the start of every game i can get through the selction of a race and all that and the i hit next and I get A blue screen and my puter resets 8-O and then....I think it might have something to do with my drivers but I have No idea where to look for them. Im runing an ATI mobility redeon 9000 and I alreay looked through the manufactures Site and just see all these options i have no idea where to start....

Also slight bug. Im runing on my Dell Desktop. If I go to build ship from space I get All including obsolete AND previous unupgraded ships Example( Scout Original with realy low engines sensors and life soport-I get Better Engines an place them on my scout via Upgrade-Get better sensors again upgrade. Whenyour gona build a ship on planet only most recent apears. BUT if you Build from space ALL THREE apreare,???)

Sorry bout spelling.

I attempted to demand some influence points from a race. Initially the indicated amount was 1, but when I grabed the slider and moved it to the right the influence points demand jumped by hundreds of thousands.

Ship range is limited to ~6.5 sectors from planet / starbase. Additionally, ships with range capability exceeding 6.5 have their highlighted range on the minimap displayed as a square of length 13, centered around the ship.

Alternatively, this is a bug because ships can be designed with more and even on the main map can report ranges greater than 6.5, despite the hard-coded limit.

To reproduce, build ship with enough support modules to exceed 6.5 sector range, such as 14.7. The minimap square is fairly obvious, and the ship cannot go beyond 6.5 sectors regardless.

While in the ship designer, ship designs with a lot of sensors can display a sensor radius greater than 15.

After building the ship, the true limit(15) is correctly reported in the various detail screens. Going back to the ship designer and reviewing the design, it will still report greater than 15.
Just a clarification on ship range: If your ship exceeds the 6.5 sector "max" range by a lot, you are able to travel in a 13 sector square, instead of the normal range circle. So you can cheat and reach the things in the corners, which are slightly farther away.

So either the 6.5 sector limit is unintentional, or it's not properly truncating the range radius for non-orthogonal vectors.

The planet quality and population growth abilities don't seem to do anything. My custom race has a pop growth of +70, but I always get the usual amount of pop growth.

Also, after the latest upate, I now have a glitch where it will sometimes combine stats of custom races. I think this happens when I have a custom race selected and then load another from the custom race screen. It does not do it every time however.

I currenlty have a race with:

Morale + 15%
Population Growth + 70%
Social Production + 60%
Military Production + 30%
Research + 30%
Planet Quality + 10%
Logistics + 18

Total pick score of -7

Two main problems, one with saved games and the other with ship design.

-Loading a save game makes most "progress bars" (research, social and mil production, etc.) pause for one turn. As in, if it says 1 week left to produce something, that bar won't move when you end the turn and will actually take 2 weeks. If this affects the AI too then I don't care so much, but if it's penalizing the player it could be a real problem, especially for people like me who can't always play for longer periods.

-When adding parts to a ship, the miniaturization change only affects some parts it seems. Right now I have +25% miniaturization, i.e. the first two levels. The Titanium Armor level III (I think) says it weighs 5, but only takes up 4 once you put it on the ship. That's fine, seems like it takes off the 25%. But my level III Stinger which is supposed to weigh 14, still does weigh 14, making it much less useful than my railguns which do get reduced weight. Makes it hard to predict what kinds of ships you can make with various tech.

Strange, probably one-in-a-million occurence. Was playing a 10-player standard game (me as custom) on a medium sized map. I had a class 26(!) planet spawn in a star system right next to me. A little further into the game, I click the turn button, BOOM. The entire map turns red (my influence color), and I suddenly get notified that my class 26 and only my class 26 is rebelling in favor of the Drengins (the had no starbase or any other lead in influence, they we shared a distant northern border). Very strange, and very random.

Version 1.0x

1) When the "No more than 5 modules can be added to a starbase" law is passed, it is still possible to add more than the 5 module limit if multiple constructors are stacked up and then moved as a stack to upgrade the starbase.

2) Battle Stations IV is incorrectly labeled and referred to as Battle Stations III. (I.e., you will see two Battle Station III upgrades available if you have researched that far along, and haven't upgraded yet. You will then see two Battle Station III modules attached to the starbase once upgraded.)

3) The Discovery Sphere planetary improvement icon is identical to the Zero-G Arena planetary improvement icon. Intended?

4) This game is way too addictive, and I had to buy my wife the new Sims 2 expansion so she would stay occupied while I was conquering the galaxy.

I was playing a custom race and noticed two small things.

1. Drengin script - They came on asking me to declare war on someone and said "The [theirshortname] have always been...", blah, blah, blah.

2. Random planet occurence - Semi-intelligent Manticore trees - gave moral choices
Good - Stop using completely - causes -2% soldiering
Neutral - Minimize impact on trees but don't compromise training - causes -4% soldiering
Evil - Use the trees for toothpicks - causes +4% soldiering
Something screwy there between good and neutral.

Love this game!!!!

I'm not sure if this is just the specific game I was playing, because I hadn't noticed it before, but, in the Pie-Graph thing under "United Planets" showing the distribution of power, it showed civilizations that had surrendered. This isn't the one during voting, it's the one where you see how many weeks are left, how many laws have passed... This might be intended, but I'm not sure.

First post dont know if it has been mentioned..
Everytime I turn my computer on, Galactic Civ II launches its startup menu.
I like the game and all but I really don't want to see it everytime I turn on my machine.

On the tech screen, sort the techs by time left. Select one of the ones lower down and spend a few weeks researching it. It should move up the list, but it stays right where it was.
