Stuff we were too blind to see

This thread is for people who have found some bug, glitch, typo, oversight, you name it.  If you are running into a serious in-game problem (i.e. one that prevents you from playing) see the other sticky on IN-GAME problems. 

Here's how to report something we screwed up on:

1) What the bug/glitch is.

2) How to reproduce it.

Note: Glitches are things that are definitely glitches.  This is NOT a wish list thread or a place to tell us how you think we should have implemented some feature differently.

In the graphs at the bottom of the main screen I got corruption (only happened once so far) since installing 1.0x. It was consistently there for 20 minutes or so, but dissappeared after alt-tabbing. (the graph data for between -3 and -10 weeks approx were scattered vertically in a wierd way)


1- I've had this too, on the graph at the bottom, and on the mini-map at the bottom right. Everything was blurry.
Also on gigantic galaxies, the influence circles on the mini-map were badly shown, showing a half and missing a half.

2- Often, in a new turn, the icons appearing on the right (to tell you of built ships and planet stuff) don't get at the bottom. They just stay up and pile all over.

The Zero-G arena (45 % morale bonus) upgrades into the Virtual Reality Center (30% morale bonus).

The Graviton gun has an insane 8 attack value, when the preceding one had 2 and the next one 3.

Fixed the 5 planets on all stars bug, apparently it is to do with the my game/player files in my documents, after I deleted them all except the savegames it stop happening. Odd!

I have this a lot and it is very annoying. I havnt tried to save/reload. Will test this.

Bug: Changing the abilities of the classic races i) overwrites the special abilities of the classic races (e.g. +25% dipl. for humans, +100% loyalty for Yor,...) and ii) it's only possible to get them back by manually deleting the CurrentCustomRaceX.raceconfig files. See Link, for more info.

Bug: With the Planet/Ship List overlay open, the mouse-scroll towards the left of the screen is disabled. (I'll allow myself a tiny related wish here - please allow us to change the keyboard-settings (so I can make arrows scroll instead)).

Bug: Obsoleted and upgraded designs show up in the Quickbuild window.

Bug?: On the Planet/Ship List overlay I can see Pop, Appr R., M. Prod, and S. Prod for all known foreign planets no matter what espionage level I have with a race. I'm guessing this should at the least require some level of espionage...

Bug?: (speculation) With just some advantage in diplomacy, I seem to be able to trade techs with races of equal power with a seemingly very heavy advantage. I admit, I've been playing with sub-intelligent opponents, but still? Last night I managed to trade techs at something near 4 to 1 cost advantage...

AI continues to send constructors to SB that I have received from them through trading. This may be to the relative dumb level of the AI at normal. I have not seen it at challenging or painful.

There's a few spelling errors in the game. In the tutorials, for example, there's a "yoru".

Also, I haven't been able to reproduce it reliably, but my ATI Radeon (with the latest drivers) will sometimes omit capitol letters or turncate lines. By scrolling the text box, I can force it to draw them. I'm not sure if it's a result of rendering or GPU Throttling, but it's only happened since the 'X' release.

- In the campaign, first mission, the starbases bonus do not apply. It does not matter if the starbase is on a ressource or if it is a military/economic/influence starbase, the bonus is never there! The problem is that for the enemy(Drengin), the bonus does apply to them. A little unfair i would say...

- Also in the campaign(cause i haven't tried something else yet), first mission, if i add a first mining barrack module to my morale starbase, i get a visual glitch. It looks like a white square displayed over the normal starbase graphic.
This is strange because i have tried many other types of starbases and i did not get this glitch.

I have XP sp2.

It's been mentioned in it's own thread, figured i'd put it here, as well. There appears to be a new bug since the last patch. The influence calc is going screwy and one empire is getting total influence for one or two turns. Unfortunately, because of the way Influence works, I can't send you my save game, because reloading resets the influence calcs. One of the guys that had this happen said it was after he had conquered a planet. Not sure if that's what caused in my current game or not, because it happened to the Arceans, not me. But, I have seen it twice in my current game.

I'm new to the game, so I don't know if this is a glitch or by design.

An odd things I've experienced is when playing the default humans, if I ramp up research production at the outset of a game I can obtain the universal translator in one week at the cost of about 16BC. However, if I play on a gigantic map, it costs more. Is this on purpose or is it a glitch?

The ships in orbit screen tooltips are completely gone. In the previous versions, the tooltips would only work for ships in the top row. With 1.0X, the tooltips do not work for either row.

Glitch >(reported looong time ago and still there) - Planet/ship list from the main screen - planets - unowned planets - all show as guarded.

Some continued glitches:

Sometimes if you already have a ship/fleet selected and you go to a planet and launch a ship, give that new ship an order it will still have the other ships selected and you end up giving accidental movement orders to ships you never intended to.

When you end a turn with a ship selected after giving eg a sentry order, the game will no longer auto-select and jump to idle ships again until you you manualy press the 'next' button to find them.

No longer get tool tip for ships in orbit, makes it very hard to know what ships your launching as those tiny little icons can look very similar.

I occasionally have a problem (usually late-game) with planets, icons, parts of screens and trade routes "flickering". The 3d model of the planet will mostly disappear save for a few flickers, but the icons over it will remaine there, and I can still select it.

I have been unable to come up with a way to reliably reproduce this effect, so I'm sure I'm not being very helpful. My system is a 3ghz P4, 1GB DDR RAM, ATI Radeon 9800 graphics card. Runs XP Pro SP2. I can solve the problem by saving, quitting the game and reloading. I CANNOT solve it by saving and then loading again...I have to quit out completely.

The graphics drivers are dated 9/14/2005. There may be a newer version, but I haven't checked.

Ship textures aren't showing up, regardless of whether the option to disable them is toggled or not. I get nice little fleets of plastic ships to play with. No other graphical problems.

Tried toggling ship textures and some other graphics settings, with no avail.
I'm running a laptop with a Geforce 4 440 Go.

For those having the non-selected ships moving bug: i think you can work around it by making sure all ships in stacks are unselected in the little window at the bottom, where you select ships to put into a fleet. It seems that list doesn't get cleared when you select a single ship.

Damaged ships sometimes get repaired to more than their maximum HP when placed in orbit, e.g., a ship will have 21/20 HP. Having Micro Repair Bots both increases the probability of an overshoot and makes the overshoot larger (e.g., 40/36 HP).

To reproduce, fight battles until you have several damaged ships, then park the ships in orbit and end turn until they are at max HP or above.

1. After a while of playing, all saved games show up twice in the list. If I name a save game 'Battle1' for instance, now there will be 2 'Battle1' save games. Only one will load. Of the pair, one has only a time stamp, while the other has the rest of the info, like the campaign map name, etc.. Reloading doesn't make it go away. And when it happens, it happens to *all* saved games. Deleting one of the pair, deletes both, but only if the correct one is selected - if the incorrect one is selected, nothing happens. I use win2k.

2. Web site - I don't have the collector's edition, but the serial number entry on the website to register don't work. It *does* work through SDC, however, so I got the patch just fine. It doesn't have the GC2 in front, and I even tried it on the collector's edition page, it just doesn't work on the web pages. Minor problem since it did work in SDC though. Got the game through gogamer.com

3. A couple times, the next turn button wouldn't appear so I couldn't end my turn. Loading my last saved game solved the problem each time.

4. A few CTD's, but they don't appear to have any rhyme or reason. Sometimes after playin' for a couple hours, sometimes after a few minutes, and never while I'm doin' the same thing as one of the prior times. They're far and few between so they are tolerable, and reloading and continuing on as I was doesn't cause them to happen again, so just a minor annoyance.

1)Lucky Ranger not so lucky. After getting the message that I had found the "Ranger" ship, everything on the screen went white except for text. I saved, exitted, reset, and loaded the game back up. Ranger was there, screen was normal. Hit the turn button, got a second "Ranger." I Figured the game was aplogizing for acting screwy, but a couple turns later everything on the screen went blue except for text. This may be too bugs just overlapping. Also, while the Lucky Ranger supposedly had an assortment of weaponry and defenses according to its Details screen, it only displayed 30 Guns/20 Armor.

2)While loading a custom race, I somehow managed to increase the base logistic value from 4% to 16% while adjusting my abilities presumeably by reloading the same race repeatedly. I The racial picks would be my saved ones, but the total spent was -3.

The flip hardpoint attachment modifier not only reverses the direction of the hardpoint, but also flips the axis. For example with a hardpoint pointing forward and up, when you apply the modifier will make it point backwards and down. Don't know if that was intentional but it's different to the beta where it only reversed the direction.

For axis flipping you might want to add more modifiers.

Don't know if it has been mentioned already:
If a fleet and a single ship occupy the same space I have no way (at least I found none) to disband the fleet without moving the single ship away.

The Disband Fleet button doesn't come up as long as there's another ship in the same location.

Not sure if this is a bug or by design, but I hope it is a bug. After loading a saving a few times I built an influence starbase inside the influence of my neighbour (they were getting too close for comfort and I wanted to push the border back towards them). Instead of reducing their influence it actually increased it. I tested further by upgrading the starbase twice and each time their influence grew. Destroying the starbase didn't change their influence (which had now overtaken all my planets, lol).

Okay, I read something about this bug before, but now I can't find the thread.

anyway; whenever I create a new ship and name it, if it has the same name as a ship I created before and made obsolete, it crashes the game. the game also seems to be keeping a copy of all those in memory and whenever I go to the build screen on a planet, it gives me a list of all that stuff, even though I made them obsolete. I went through and deleted a bunch, which helps with the list problem, but NOT with the crash problem.

this is making the game a little frustrating, as I don't wish to keep coming up with new names every time I change games. I like to K.I.S.S. as much as possible and now I've run out of simple names.....

The planet's summary screen don't show the bonuses from tiles on each building ...

Example : factory with 300% bonus tile is showing a 8 units production like another one without bonuses ... The total of manufacturing doesn't take the bonuses too

It is on purpose: since there is more planets on gigantic map, tech requires more BC than on a smaller map
