STICKY: The Glitch Report

STICKY: The Glitch Report

Stuff we were too blind to see

This thread is for people who have found some bug, glitch, typo, oversight, you name it.  If you are running into a serious in-game problem (i.e. one that prevents you from playing) see the other sticky on IN-GAME problems.

Here's how to report something we screwed up on:

1) What the bug/glitch is.

2) How to reproduce it.

Note: Glitches are things that are definitely glitches.  This is NOT a wish list thread or a place to tell us how you think we should have implemented some feature differently.

Thanks!

I have a save game file for the post-conquer population explosion glitch. I've reproduced it three times so far. Go ahead and conquer the Dregnin homeworld with Information Warfare. Each time I've conquered it it has had it's population explode to ~4 million billions. It takes some luck to win the battle and I had to load the game a few times to conquer. I don't have hosting at the moment so I put it on yousendit:

This is a glitch that I found last week and it is still in the new 1.0X

When researching the prerequisite techs for the core ships, I was curious to see the appearance of the various pre-made models. Well I can only create the line of core ships from the Beam Weapon line of ships, Star Fury etc. The Mass Driver and Missile based core ships do not unlock in the buy window, etc. even with their prerequisite techs researched.

For example, I research Xeno Ind. Theory which is a prereq. for Missile Boat, Sniper, and Star Fury. Then I research lasers and the Star Fury can now be built. Then I research the stinger 2, but the Missile Boats never show up. Same with the mass driver tech.

I checked several more times by varying the order, trying stingers before the other two tech lines, and mass drivers before the other two, but they are still unavailable. I even tried researching the weapon techs before the Xeno Ind. Theory tech. Doesn't work.

I can progress past the Star Fury platform and build the Battle Axe and Phoenix, though I didn't try going further than that. This isn't a big issue for me as I only use custom ships, but there are others who have asked how to make the other core ships and this may be part of the reason why they are having trouble.

It is a credit to the quality of this game that I am enjoying testing this stuff almost as much as playing it, the complexity is amazing. Kudos.

Upgrade ship screen has graphic glitch (I have seen in 1.0D and X) showing that defense will increase when it really shouldn't -- and even shows wrong type of defense.
Example:
Ship you want to upgrade has 0/2/0 attack and 0/0/1 defense. Class to upgrade to is 0/4/0 attack and 0/0/1 defense.
However, the screen shows that your new stats after the upgrade will be 0/4/0 attack and 0/2/0 defense.

Note: I have also seen this when attempting to upgrade the flagship to a constructor - neither of them had defense to start with...

I'll try to edit in a screen shot.

Item 2:
Using a custom race with drengin hulls. The default (core) freighter is human style!

I hate the moving one ship or fleet causes another ship or fleet to also move glitch. It is testing my profanity skills, they are still good though. I am going to judo practice on Monday and someone is going down because of this.

I have also run into the one ship that can't be added to a fleet.

Please, please fix this ship moving thing soon.

Recently, I came across a couple minor glitches. V 1.0X. I don't know if they existed before this version, but I've found them now.

First, while I was creating a custom race, I somehow ended up with two simultaneous color schemes. So every new game, I have certain inconsistencies between my starmap colors, and ship portrait colors. Upon restarting this inconsistency went away. I'll look into reproducing it. I suspect it had something to do with going back and forward in the setup screens. I believe it affected only the core designs, not any new ones I might make.

The second glitch relates to the trade screen. It focuses on the displayed max trade value for a route. As far as I can see over the course of months, the max value always matched the current value. I believe the intended purpose was to record the highest income recieved in a turn from a route, or the expected highest, but it never deviated from the current value.

Planet city lights don't seem to show up consistently or at all. Personally, I have never seen any planet city lights, regardless of populations/technological advancement.
This is more of an observation, so I can't think of a specific set of instructions to reproduce it. However, in my case, all I need to do is play a game for a while and then notice that there are no lights anywhere.

Apparently I'm not smart enought to get a screen pasted here and editing my previous post keeps failing. So I uploaded it as my "Desktop image" under my account profile. The example I loaded is a 0/2/0 - 0/0/1 ship (as seen in the lower interface area) trying to upgrade to a 0/4/0 - 0/0/1 ship.

The upload screen shows this instead: 0/2/0 - 0/2/0 upgrade to 0/4/0 - 0/4/0. Attack correct, defense wacked. Incidentally, the left column of the upgrade screen shows correct info. And no starbase or other modifiers are present.

Oh, one other minor graphics glitch.

Saturn doesn't always have rings - that is, sometimes the planet is bigger than the rings and they are apparently *inside* the planet so they don't show up. Pretty easy to reproduce - pick any map settings as the Terrans and keep hitting Ctrl+N until Saturn looks naked. I've also noticed that Saturn occasionally doesn't even show up and Sol only has 4 planets.

Regarding #5, I get that problem too. I realise that it seems to happen with military techs or stuff the AI would refuse to trade under any circs.

Save game problem:

On reloading a saved game:

(1) All tech reseerch and production stop.

(2) Whatever was being produced for that turn, if completed, does not get a GNN notification, so the build queue goes empty.

1) Ships and fleets stay selected even though you haven't selected multiple units. Remove a ship from a fleet, select that ship, and sometimes both ships and fleet move to new square.

2) Remove 2 ships from a fleet and move each one to a different square. Select one. Upgrade it or move it. The one you selected isn't moved or upgraded, the other is.

Lol, I have a forum icon for cakewalk even though I haven't sumbitted a single metaverse game. I am in an empire though.

Sometimes after loading a game the sound will be unusually loud, much louder than the level set in the volume sliders. Moving the sliders around a bit immediately lowers the volume to the value indicated on the slider.

I don't think that impatience has anything to do with it. This happened to me tonight when I was reloading from a previous CTD that occurred when I saved a modified ship design. I have seen and read about crashes caused by virtually every activity in the game. I have yet to finish a playing session without a CTD, and it is getting really tiring. I just posted another problem that I also sent to Stardock Support.

Glitch > Moving the civ capital from planet to planet does not remove the civ capital bonus from the orig planet. It is possible to max-out +production etc on all your planets by just moving the civ capital around.

Major cheese situation and really needs to be addressed quickly!

Easily replicated by clicking on one of your planets and selecting 'make civ capital'.

I don't know if this belongs here or in the In-Game thread: there is no Uninstall, at least for my downloaded game. I downloaded the game (now ver 1.0X) but also bought the disk. I have been having a lot of problems with CTDs, so I decided to uninstall and try re-installing using the disk. Problem: there is no Uninstall button or icon, and when I tried to uninstall from Windows Control Panel I received an error message ("Could not find INSTALL.LOG file"). I hesitate to install over the possibly corrupt version on my computer.

Suggestions?

I have a glitch/technical issue that, while it does not prevent me from playing the game, is really nasty and decreases my enjoyment of it:

On my galaxy map planets do not appear at all and are instead represented by mere rings of differeing colour, smaller ships are also sometimes invisible as are space stations (except, for some reason, influence stations). I compensate by using the minimap to see what's where as far as ships but never knowing where your military and economy bases are can be a real bother, as can the odd enemy fleet sneaking "under the radar " and getting the jump on you.

I have a lower end graphic-card (Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440) so I don't expect a lot of bells and whistles graphics-vise, still it seems to me that it should at least be able to show me low detail versions of said things.

If anyone have any clues as to what I could do to improve the game performance I'd be sincerely grateful!

Best regards,
Benjamin Lunøe

Before someone suggests I look in the Totalgaming/GalCiv2/ directory for the uninstall button, I did, found it, and it doesn't work either. That just takes me to a browser looking for the (apparently non-existent) install log.

The problem remains. Suggestions?

The UP proposal in which volcanic activity has made a planet habitable, and the council decides which civ gets to have it came up. The text read something like "...blah blah on planet has made it habitable blah blah." With no planet named. The vote went in my favor, and I had no new planet when it was all over.

Change your region (regional settings in the Control Panel) to English (US).

My, that worked like a charm! How beautiful the galaxy looks now, thanks a bundle!

I noticed the following bug in 1.0D1:
* After the colonisation event that increases planetary defense, the bonus doesn't show up in the planet bonus area.

I played through some of the campaign while waiting for the new patch and noticed some typos and oddities:
* Siege mission end game summary overview victory. It's written "Our troops quckly...".
* Achilles Heel mission briefing. The end of the first paragraph is missing a '.' (don't remember the english word)
* Same mission. All three allies uses random sandbox greetings. The altarians told me for example how nice it was to meet my race for the first time. Would be nice if you included some mission-specific greetings in this mission too.
* Same mission. I have trade and can research advanced trade, yet neither of them show up in the techtree.
* Typo in Mission1a_Text.xml, "Let us work together of fight off the vile machines."
* Typo in Mission5a_Text.xml, "We will have to strengthen our missiles to couter-balance this.

Another weird thing is that the Drengin and Yor usually are complaining that they are losing the battle as soon as the mission begins. Doesn't make much sense.

There is also a typo when you select ethical alignment. In the evil description, propaganda is misspelled propagana.

Bug: Planet Quality reset after loading a game. When you use soil enhancement etc. to improve your planets quality the number goes up. Example a level 10 planet goes up by one number to 11. Save this game now and reload it, the planet is back down to 10. This is more worse when you have a low quality planet and after all kinds of terraforming you have a medium planet that can support 20billion peoples now, reloading and you're back down to 5 billion peoples again etc.

Bug: Virtual Reality Center still boost morale only 40%. Thats far less then the former enchancements.

Bug: Computer knows where everything is even if he didn't explore first. You can easy test that with the autosurvey funktion with your ship. Don't explore just klick "a" for autosurvey. Your ship will find all anomalies but you haven't even explored one piece of the universe yet. AI knows where all planets are etc. Thats anoying. I have to purchase 5+ colony ships in the beginning all the time and fly them blind into unknown space to have a chance to get some new colonies. If I would wait till I've explored those areas first and then build a colony ship then you can be sure that the AI will have those planets already. As I said AI knows where everything is and that needs a change. You can easy test that when you just start a new game and press "a" (autosurvey) on your fleetship. The ship flies to every anomaly as if you would already know where it is.

Bug: Sumary Page doesn't show the right values. If you have a enchanced tile on your planet. Etc. a +300% food production one, and you place a xeno farming on it. Then your sumary page only show the normal +4mt I think it is and not a +12mt (300%). Same goes for manufaturing, research and that influence type of planet field.

Multiple things, I have had the 'can't fleet up' and 'fleets won't move for consecutive turns' already described by others. The 'can't fleet up' glitch makes me unable to sometimes fleet one ship up with another, withing the logistics limit that is, and some times the glitch even creates a 'empty fleet' which stacked on the other ships (a empty sqaure with a logistics count of 0).

The 'fleets won't move for consecutive turns' glicth I had too, though in my case those fleets wouldn't move for longer then two turns. Sometimes I just destroyed my ships because they were useless. I had it in a game where I had quite some ships, and the problem seemed to be that the game didn't return the movement to the fleet in a new turn, because after waiting a turn and clicking the fleet again it said, without having moved at all, that it had 0/x moves left. Very irritating in a war...

Another one: The screens sometimes starts scrolling upwards or sidewards automatically. I can stop it by entering a planet screen and exciting it again.

Something that happened once was that after I loaded the game, the planet tyles were all weird: My constructions were partially build on sea tiles. This was the case with multiple planets, though I only had it once.
