Where the hells the number gone?

Ok, So this might be a horrifyingly stupid question, but where is the serial number for the game? it arrived today (collecters edition), and has the CE code on the back of the manual, but when I try and update patches or anything, it says "Serial number not detected, would you like to purchase now?"
I've inputted the CE code here, but it wont work

I guess you got the Paradox distributed version? In this case you might want to have a look here (Link) because it might solve your issue.

Rather confusingly my CE edition had a flyer with a Collector's Edition serial number and also a sticker on the back of the CD case which seemed to be required in different places. Still it worked out in the end.
