Why does HP scale up so much with experience?

It is very distressing that one of my ships is now at 4x its starting value in HP. Just because a crew is more experienced, I don't think the ship itself would necessarily be able to take more damage. If anything it's offensive and defensive stats would go up due to it's crew's proficeincy at targeting and manuvering capability. If HP must go up with experience, perhaps the ammount that it goes up should be toned down. Just made ships shouldn't be at such a huge disadvantage compared to seasoned ones.

Yep. I've noticed a few times that it seems like they don't level up at all for a few battles and then all of a sudden they're leveling up every signle battle they win.

I saw another post on the forums saying that experience wasn't being reset properly in between levels, that would certainly explain it.

I have no idea if that's true or not, since I've been so obsessively playing the game and having fun to do a detailed check but it does seem as if they level awfully quickly sometimes.

It may very well not be acting as intended and if that's the case, I'd imagine it will get caught and reworked rather quickly. If it is acting as intended, I agree with you, it ought to be toned down somewhat imho.

Yes, the experience gain seems a bit out of hand. Also, it seems to actually accelerate, or at least not slow down, as ships seem to gain hitpoints even faster as time goes on. Some kind of logarithmic curve would be a better fit.

Yeah but the hp going up makes more sense from a gameplay perspective. It's an abstracted system, realism dosn't matter, or you could even say it's more realistic having the hp go up then the attack/defense.

I think the HP going up is sort of simulating a "Scotty" type guy/group of guys in the engine room keeping everything together while the ship keeps taking hits, also moving the HP up is the same as reducing the effectiveness of the opponents weapons, ie the bridge crew manuvering the ship so it isnt taking hits dead on or in vulnerable areas.

HP increasing about as effective as attack/defense increasing. Your ship is more durable so it can fight longer, getting more out of the weapons it has.

Getting crazy gains due to a possible bug is another thing!

I like this feature alot. I've seen more than a few thread requesting some sort of hero system. Well this experience system does create heroic units. The only thing that's missing is some sort of portrait for the pilot or captain.

I think the high HP is a nice bonus without being overpowering. An experienced pilot should be able to shoot down unexperienced pilots flying similar platforms easier. I figured the extra HP wasn't representing the platforms ability to take more damage but the pilot's ability to avoid more damage than an average pilot. In this sense I do feel it adds more realism. An experience fighter pilot should be able to cripple a battleship or maybe even defeat an unexperience battleship crew.

In my last campaign I had a fighter I built toward the beginning of the game for exploration. He survived every battle he faught in and toward the end of the war after a couple upgrades to his fighter he was an amazing little unit. I renamed him Char Aznable. The "Red Comet" Led ever major offensive strike in that campaign. I say this is not an overpowering system because he wasn't invincible. I had units of compareable experience but sadly that didn't survive till the end of the war. My fleets pride and joy the battleship "Argama", which was similarly experience, was shot down in a failed expedition to invade the Drengin Homeworld.
