Nothing but trouble since release

The Beta was rock steady.

I bought the beta and played it a lot, liked it, the final release is a whole different game!, and mostly a bad difference. It now crashes on me every 3-4 moves. The last update of Stardock keeps resetting my router so I can’t download most of the game.

Stardock has a corrupted file so I can’t uninstall it to reinstall it. With out Stardock I can’t download the game and when I use Stardock I seldom get more than an hour of router use. (I have a 3 meg down DSL line. But in Stardock it acts like a 56.6k modem. It worked fine with the beta.) Asking for help from Stardock is a frustrating 4 day exercise where they give me canned responses that ignore my problem report or log files I send them. (I can’t uninstall Stardock because it can’t find it’s temp files!!! Argh!)

Is anyone else who had the beta having trouble with the production Galciv II?

No, I don't.

If youre having problems with StardockCentral you may not have all the files needed to properly run the game. THe final game should actually be considerablly more stable than the betas, so that makes it sound like something else is at fault.

Can you post your debug.err when you get another crash, and if any players have had issues uninstalling SDCentral, can you chime in with any advice?

Thanks!

I have to say I find most of these posts hard to believe. I have not had a single CTD or any real problem and I've been playing it since day one. I must just be lucky.

also wouldn't smart exception be helpful in this case to diagnose these crashes in more detail

I agree, I haven't had a single CTD, bug, or any problem at all downloading, installing, or playing this game.

Try to reinstall SDC. https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp
That should help clear up the download problems.
Then download GalCiv2 again and all shoudl be well.

shalkto: Naw, my concern is more with missing files, which the debug.err will scream about right up top. Plus, if he's having probls with SDCentral, I can't properly trust it ti give him a good copy of SmartException - Though, if we can't get his problem fixed we may have to use a crash log to see whats up

I've had few CTDs, but i do sometimes get a strange problem when I quit the game (solution: DO NOT quit the game ) that requires me to restart. Oh well, maybe it's just my smarmy 256mb of ddr333 at fault here.

I highly doubt he made all of this up, despite your good fortune with the game. I can understand being happy with what is clearly (for most of us) a great game but try to show some sympathy, also, for those who ARE having problems. (Not me, I've had a good experience so far with the final client.)

Just a suggestion...I'm seeing a lot of bashing going on towards anyone who's expressing an alternative opinion about the game and I don't think that's cool or says a lot about us SD fans. It's fair game if someone is just clearly trolling in these forums but just because the game is better than S*X for you doesn't mean it may necessarily be for someone else. I'd also bet that SD is very keen to hear opposing viewpoints or about bugs/problems because it will assist them in making the game better and in making better future games as well.

My .02 cents, no offense intended.

Most of the time, I've no problems. I've had however some game freeazes, where I could still move the cursor around, but nothing else. No way to go on, no way to wuit, no way to go back to windows. When this happened the only solution you to manually restart the computer.

Would love to send a log file of the error, but, when it locks up it takes the whole comp down to a re-boot. So neither Dr. Watson or Smart Exception see anything.

When I try to download a fresh copy of the game, or any of it components the error I get is “site not found”. Because it has scrambled my router, a Belkin wireless.

Someone mentioned a uninstaller for SD, Where can I find that?

My system is a AMD 64 4000+, 2 gigs of RAM, ATI 6550, 3 meg down, one up DSL so plenty of comp for game.

I really enjoyed I and look forward to II.
