Where are the pirates gone?

I've colonized about 40 planets. No pirate ships showed up. Is it normal?

Pirates don't always show up. I believe that's a random event.

I've had them show up in a few games. Very annoying they are, too.

I've had the random event a couple times. . . but they never seemed to do anything to me. I guess they showed up in other civilisations' territories and got smacked.

I had them show up late game with a fleet of 14 ships, consisting of battle ships, cruisers, and fighters. It was good fun to see that battle (against four or five of my huge hulled dreadnaughts).

Civs are always at war with the pirates even when there are none. It would be nice if this only showed up when they were actually at war with pirates.

I had them show up in one game..but i never saw them..i just got the message saying they were out there.
