Congratulations to the Stardock crew! That comfortable northern Michigan climate must do wonders for development... You guys have got it nailed. You give us exactly what we want. Great production value, no BS like StarForce (even license provisions for laptop users; when the rest of the industry cringes that you can actually install the software on your own machine instead of pay-per-play!) Don't sell out to the Korx when they come knocking! Send them to Da Yoopers...

Does anyone know the last time a PC game got a 9.0 or better on Gamespot?

Wow, in the Tilt Category (reviewers personal slant), he gave it a 10! They also gave it an Editors Choice Award, and said it has that "something" extra that seperates a good game from a Hall of Famer. I'd have to agree.

A 9.0 from GS is truly a great accomplishment. As Gamespot stated, when people are comparing GalCiv2 to CivIV you know you've made one of the best strategy games ever.

Oh, and to answer your question Frogboy, the last 9.0+ PC game @ Gamespot was Civ IV.

Civ 4 (Oct 26, 2005)

What a coincidence!

Highest ranked recent games on Gamespot:

Civ IV- 9.4

Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas- 9.0
Brothers in Arms, Road to Hill 30- 9.0

still think that it deserved at least a 9.4 (thats what civ4 got) aww well but for an indi developer making a game in a "dead" genre and gettin a 9.0 from gamespot is definently a huge plus

Excellent achievement, here. Gamespot is notoriously stingy when it comes to 9.0's. Congradulations, Stardock crew!

Civilization IV had a score of 9.4 on Oct 26, 2005. That was the last one from what I see. This game is well deserved of such high comparisons as well!!!

Great job Mighty Frog Lord!

Ahh you beat it to me!

You're now the highest rated turn based space sim of all time guys. That's something. Gamespot doesn't give 9.0's to just anybody. Especially if it's not a first person shootem-up or an Xbox game

Congrats to stardock, we already knew they did a great job but it's good to see they got the recognition they deserve, hopefully this will translate into more resources for SD's next awesome project.

After GC2 and Civ4, get ready for the wave of cheezy clone strategy game imitators.  You know what they say, it's the sincerest form of flattery

Just wanted to say congrats! I'm so proud to see the rebirth of the Space 4X genre! Good job and frankly you deserved it!

9.0 doesn't come around often and when it does, you know the game has to be good. Hopefully this will mean a surge in sales for GalCiv2.

Congrats Stardock!

grats on a well-deserved score, StarDock!

Congratz StarDock.

Oh and CTB123 I revised your list a little for you. I hope you do not mind.

Galactic Civilizations II - 9.0
Civ IV- 9.4
Battlefield 2- 9.3
Guild Wars- 9.2
F.E.A.R- 9.1
Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas- 9.0
Brothers in Arms, Road to Hill 30- 9.0

Edited to add this quote from Gamespot: "Suffice it to say that Galactic Civilizations II is different in many ways than Civ IV, but stands next to it as one of the all-time best 4X strategy games."

I happen to agree! Very impressive StarDock. Again congratz!

Great score, and congrats to the devs. I almost think it should have be a 9.2 or so... but that's just me. It's great to see a developer like Stardock get rewarded for such a fine effort.

Indeed; even the venerable MOO2 only managed a rating of 8.7! Congratulations to all Stardockians!

Wow, I am suprised gamespot gave it 9.0 usually they are quite harsh with their ratings.
Stardock should be a model for the rest of the industry.

Congrats Stardock!

I bought it last night and have barely slept since then ... I think I caught the "One More Turn" syndrome ...

I've been waiting for a MOO2 type game for a very long time. Well the wait is over ... and this is so much better than that old classic. It's going to reside on my hard drive for a loooong time.

Hopefully other companies will realize that there are types of games other than #@^% first person shooters that can be successful ... I hope you sell a zillion copies.

Got to go back to my game ... one more turn before I go to bed ...

Congratulations Stardock. That is really an achievement and it definitely is well-deserved. It's also a very well written review; which will no doubt help sales even more (we can only hope)!

Looking at what they posted as "the bad" - no multiplayer. Hmmm. Every turn-based game that I have played PBEM or normal multiplayer has never, ever, been completed. I don't really see it as a negative, but I guess they had to put something up there, right
