Weapon Types

what are there?

I've seen discriptions of Beam Weapons, Mass Drivers, and Missiles, and the corrosponding Defenses: Shields, Armor, and Point Defenses. What about fighters and carriers? Are these in the game, or are you on;y able to produce small ships to fill the role?

No carriers. You mainly have to build your own. Much better that way anyhow. Reasearch up the 'hull' techs to get bigger hulls for bigger ships. I think the biggest is huge but I have not been all the way through the tech tree yet.

No carriers in the game, but maybe someday. I hear a lot of people that talk about it.

Carriers would be very nice. As I see it, a carrier could hold a small number of 'Tiny' or even 'Small' hulled ships - could be fun, if nothing else.

I think Brad/Frogboy made a comment that there are no plans for adding carriers because of problems which balancing the game and recoding the AI for them. Others have asked for Terror Stars (planet killers) in GalCivI, that were left out to keep the game balanced; although, I think they could be added as long as they were extremely expensive and required very advanced techs so that building them would be difficult.

I would say the easiest way to model a carrier would be to have it be a module, like a troop transport, that accelerates the movement of small and tiny ships. That is, small and tiny ships wouldn't need hyperspace engines so long as they were in a stack/fleet with a carrier. It would let them be comparatively more powerful since they wouldn't need to waste space on engines.

Fighters or Carriers.. Well as they said no carriers. I name my Tiny ships fighter and smalls heavy fighter.

Scaling on life support is very good, at most one can take 2-3 units. Being carried around isn't necessary.. Although I know it's a different thing entirely. However, what you CAN do is make a big ship say Large and fill the rest of a fleet with all tiny ships..
